Catios do so much more than you think!

A recent article written by veterinarian Jenifer Chatfield explains the importance of preventing cats from free roaming outdoors. This article was brought to our attention by the society (thanks for sharing!) and we thought we’d take some time to spread the word as well.

Catios not only provide a safe environment for our pets, but they also equip the enrichment they crave- they can watch beautiful birds, silly squirrels, and all those fast flying bugs without any harm to themselves or wildlife.

Check out this cool cat!
Well, it’s not actually a cat, but it is cool! Here at Catios and Coops we strive to conserve the wildlife all around us. By simply having a small space in the yard dedicated to native plants - yarrow in this scenario - we can allow native animals and insects to carry on with their essential rules in the ecosystem. No curious cats for this guy to worry about!

This is a simple catio that came with the house and although it needs a bit of an update it still provides a safe place for the cats to enjoy the outdoors, helps keep wildlife safe, and it is the best napping spot in the neighborhood. Future plans include a see-through floor, new paint, more comfy beds, and a second floor addition complete with ramps, planks, and a hammock.
