Today is .
Say what!! Aren’t I meant to be all about movement? Absolutely!!
But… walking your dog is only one part of fitness, and for some dogs, walking is not an activity which works well for them.
- Maybe they are recovering from surgery, or an injury, or have a medical condition and so are presently on restricted exercise.
- Maybe their handler isn’t able to walk them due to their own health challenges
- Maybe they are anxious or reactive, and walks beyond their safe area are just too much right now
- Maybe the weather is too hot, or too cold…
There are many reasons why a walk isn’t the best option. So what can you do in its place?
🌟So Many Things!
✅ You can do conditioning exercises with your dog to help improve their strength, balance, and body awareness in a fun way (ask me to teach you!)
✅ You can do scent enrichment activities like snuffle mats, scatter feeding, find the treat, or even nosework training
✅ Try using frozen-food toys, like Kongs, or Lick mats
✅ Have fun teaching your dog some new tricks (maybe even work towards your Trick Dog Titles)
✅ Practice some of your dog’s sport and life skills
- And many more
🌟 Enrichment is only limited by your imagination! 🌟
Integrating positive enrichment activities into our dogs’ lives is beneficial to ALL dogs - it helps to provide enjoyable opportunities for them to follow their natural instincts, offers mental and physical stimulation, and helps to alleviate stress and boredom. Plus, having fun learning new skills with our dogs is fantastic for deepening the bond between our dogs and us!
What’s not to love?!
So have fun with your dog and explore some enrichment activities together!
