Wednesday Update: WOW!! We are so touched by the outpouring of support and love for Miss Floppy! We have received 7 adoption applications for her, which is the record I’ve seen in a long time! We are going to pause incoming applications so we can make the best choice for her! ❤️ She will be meeting the top applicant tomorrow (Thursday) at 3 pm. Wish her luck! Of course we will keep all of her fans updated.
For thirteen years, she belonged to someone. She had a favorite chair. A familiar voice. A routine that made sense. She knew when breakfast came. She knew where the sun warmed the floor in the afternoon. She knew she was home.
And then, through no fault of her own, everything changed.
When her owner needed to begin traveling for work, Floppy lost the only life she has ever known. She has been with us since January 5th, and she is not adjusting.
She is grieving.
Floppy has been incredibly depressed here. Her appetite is poor. Some days she will not eat at all. We have watched her sit quietly in her space, withdrawn, as if she is waiting for someone who is not coming back.
She is just heartbroken.
Her previous owner described her as extremely sweet and chatty. She loves to eat and will happily remind you when it is time for food. She loves pets so much she can barely sit still while you are loving on her. Butt pets are her absolute favorite. It can take her a little while to warm up, but once she does, she loves deeply.
That cat is still in there.
Right now, though, the shelter is overwhelming. It is loud. It smells unfamiliar. The routine is not her routine. Senior cats do not understand work travel or life changes. They only understand that their person is gone.
This was not an easy decision. It was made with tears, not indifference. Floppy was loved.
And she still deserves to be.
Floppy would truly thrive in a quiet home, especially one with other senior cats. She does not need chaos or kittens bouncing off the walls. She needs gentle companionship. A calm presence nearby. Another older soul who understands slow mornings and long naps in the sun.
We believe that in the right home, with patience and softness, her appetite will return. Her voice will return. The sweet, food loving, chatty girl who demands dinner and leans into butt scratches will come back to life.
But she cannot do that here.
Please do not let her spend her senior years grieving behind a kennel door.
If you have ever thought about opening your home to a senior cat, or if you already share your life with other older cats who would welcome a quiet friend, please consider Floppy.
She is gentle.
She is incredibly sweet.
And she is so very sad.
She does not have endless time to wait.
She just needs home.
