A little “before and after”, even though she’s not square you can still tell a major difference in her angles. She is definitely on her way to more balanced and ideal feet 🔨

"This horse is 3 out of 5 lame."
You've probably heard a similar statement many times when it comes to describing lameness in horses. But do you ACTUALLY know what a person is talking about if they use this expression?

Because each horse has unique performance characteristics, evaluating lameness can be challenging; lameness may appear as a barely noticeable shortening of the stride, or the condition may be so severe that the horse will not bear weight on the affected limb. With such extremes possible, the AAEP developed a lameness grading system that is used by most veterinarians in the U.S. The AAEP lameness scales aids both communication and record-keeping and ranges from zero to five, with zero being no perceptible lameness and five being most extreme.

When lameness occurs or is suspected, you should contact your veterinarian promptly. An early examination can save you time, money and frustration by diagnosing and treating the problem immediately, possibly even preventing further damage.

Read more about lameness in horses on our website at https://aaep.org/horsehealth/lameness-exams-evaluating-lame-horse and consult your veterinarian to learn how you can become a better observer and steward for your equine friend!

Hello!!
I am back to trimming horses. I will not be shoeing until late spring. I am so excited to be back. Thank you to all my past clients that have already had appointments and those of you that have scheduled. I am currently not taking new clients (unless we have already previously made arrangements) at this time. I am putting people on my waiting list for when I do start. So please feel free to still reach out. IF you were a past client that would like to resume services with Triple S- I WILL do your horses. Just no new clients for the time being. Hoping everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

UPDATE

I will be taking time off from shoeing. I am not sure on how long at this time.
I hope everyone can understand. If you need help finding someone to do your horses, please let me know and I will help you.

I wish you all, and all your horses the best 😃

Update on business.

I will not be shoeing for sometime. I am having to take some extra time off in regards to making sure my back heals completely. I know I will for sure be off through April. If you need me to help you make arrangements for a farrier to take care of your horses please reach out to me. I will help you.

I hope everyone understands. Health comes first, business second!

A little over a year transformation on this draft horse! Tara was suffering from white line disease, run down heels, and list of other things that weren’t ideal.
Happy to see her moving sound and comfortable with healthy feet!

Here is a brief- short answer to a commonly asked question: “Why do you hot shoe?”

The purpose is to create a smooth interface surface between the hoof and the shoe and to seal the cut horn tubules, making them less likely to dry out in a dry climate or take on moisture and soften in a wet environment. The intense heat also tends to kill any fungi and bacteria that may cause problems in the hoof.
