If you feed it, fix it!!!

This is just a SMALL sampling of kitten posts I've seen this week in Spartanburg. 💔

Each one started with an unspayed cat. By the time kittens arrive, it’s too late. Rescues are full and there aren’t enough homes. 😿

We can’t adopt our way out of this. We have to prevent it.

🚨 If you see an ADULT outdoor cat, act BEFORE there are kittens! The good news is it's easy to learn how to help, and if you're in Spartanburg County, it's free to get the adults neutered.

Borrow a cat trap from me: www.cattrapdepot.org
I'll show you how to use it and explain how TNR (trap-neuter-return) works with Animal Allies.

Back in February, we hosted a community cat forum and created a blueprint for TNR (trap, neuter, release)in Spartanburg. A plan was formed and a mass TNR event was held this week and 84 cats were trapped, neutered and released. This is a monumental shift for the cat population in Spartanburg. Not only were 84 lives saved and made better, but hundreds of future litters and the suffering that comes with it have been prevented. This work changes communities. None of this would've been possible without an incredible group of women ( it's always the women) committed to putting the animals first, and egos and personalities last. Please join me in thanking Christina and Courtney and the entire team at Animal Allies without whom none of this would be possible, .out.loud and Cat Trap Depot for her leadership, compassion and drive, for their relentless energy, grit and determination, Shannon Chastain for her deep commitment and passion for TNR and especially Christy Norkett, the incredible human being whose compassion and commitment to this work has saved countless lives and inspired the rest of us. A huge thank you to for their commitment to helping solve this problem and paying for the county surgeries and all of the trappers who tirelessly make life better for community cats every single day. None of us can begin to make measurable change alone. But together, we can change things!

We want to share with you how is remembering our beloved mascot and best friend, Honey. Honey was beloved by many downtown businesses and residences and loved to go see her friends at the Children's Museum where she was always given lots of love and treats. After Homey crossed the Rainbow Bridge, an interactive installation featuring Honey was created and little ones can give her treats just like the staff used to do. There is also signage for caregivers encouraging them speak with our staff if their families are experiencing the loss of a pet and are keeping preschool-appropriate resources available at the front desk to share with anyone who may need them.
We are so fortunate to live in a community that recognizes and honors the bond between humans and pets. We hope you will go see Honey's installation at soon!
