We are in a CAT CRISIS right now. They are reproducing exponentially and there is no way out of this problem without aggressive spay and neuter.

If you see an unknown outdoor cat, take action ASAP. Prevention is key.

❌ Don’t wait for that female to have kittens just for them to get ran over by cars or abandoned by mom.

❌ Don’t wait for that male to have injuries from fighting that he can’t recover from.

❌ Don’t wait to try to “ earn its trust”.

Use common sense and ask your neighbors if it’s their cat first. However, the majority of the estimated 30,000 outdoor cats in our area are unowned. 😿

Last week I rented a trap to one person who said 3 cats from a neighbor who was evicted (and their unaltered cats let outside by AC) has since turned into 26 cats in just ONE year.

And another person whose neighbor let her 2 indoor cats outside (unfixed) and now they have 30+ cats… again in only a year. 😭

It happens soooo quickly!!

One thing people struggle with understanding is this:
𝐂𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭.

The kittens.
The spraying.
The fighting.
The dozens of cats everywhere.

That happens because 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀… 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀.

𝙊𝙣𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨.
𝙋𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙛𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙙𝙞𝙙𝙣’𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙭.
𝙋𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙚𝙡𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙥 𝙞𝙣.

And eventually…the situation feels impossible.

𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝘀𝘂𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗲.

But prevention would’ve been 𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙚𝙧, 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙧, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝𝙨 𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙜𝙤 before the population ever reached crisis level.

That’s why we push spay and neuter so aggressively and are willing to work alongside people and teach them.

I love seeing these signs in action! 😽 New trap renter Chris reached because she was unsure of who else was feeding cats in their neighborhood, and we were able to loan her these signs to help spread the word of her trapping efforts and the importance of not feeding in the meantime.

The cat shed is empty! Rentals will resume once traps start coming back this weekend.

Several groups & individual trappers braved yesterday’s storms to work together and get 54 more community cats vaccinated & neutered today (not including those brought in individually by citizens this morning)

Thank you to all who donated! 🙏 We just got our shipment of trap sensors and we already have 5 deployed in the field today!

These will be a HUGE time saver for trapping groups as we can leave traps unattended (in safe locations) and the sensor will alert us via text when a cat has been trapped. 🙌

‼️ Due to a vet being out sick, Animal Allies is NOT doing any feral cat surgeries tomorrow (Tuesday, May 26th). If you already have a cat trapped, please reach out to me to borrow a trap divider so that you can safely feed the cat and keep it over until Wednesday morning.
