TNR UPDATES

The check was cut (finally!) to Animal Allies on Thursday from the County. So it's just a matter of time until they receive it and reinstate TNR services.

Unfortunately, in the meantime we have lost 2 full weeks of public TNR, as well as our high-volume (40-cat) spay day on June 30th being cancelled. Hopefully we can get some more scheduled in July.

The good news is that County approved a $25,000 increase to the annual $120,000 budget for TNR at Animal Allies. Huge thank you to councilman Paul Abbott for pushing for that. 🙏

This is definitely a step in the right direction, but as we all know, we would need to at least DOUBLE that annual budget to make a difference AND increase our surgery capacity (whether at the PRC or elsewhere).

It's not going to happen overnight, but thank you to everyone who is advocating for change. I am confident that if we can increase our capacity, and work on a Targeted TNR approach to focus our efforts, the demand is there and the citizens WILL step up.

🐾 You did it again, SC! 🐾

​Our TNR workshop on Saturday blew all of our expectations out of the water, and it’s all thanks to YOU!

​We are still buzzing from the incredible energy. Here are a few of our favorite highlights:

​The Next Generation: It was so exciting to see young peeps, brand new to the world of community cats, not only show up but bring their families along!

​Pro-Tips & Inside Jokes: A longtime pro who has been in the field for decades shared some invaluable wisdom. One takeaway was loud and clear: we need to schedule an official meeting with Kentucky Fried Chicken KFC . 😏🍗

​Dream Team Collaborations: A huge shoutout to Jamie, from Cat Trap Depot and Amber, from Cat Garage Rescue. (Stay tuned for what they’ll be bringing to Spartanburg and Pickens counties soon! 😉)

​The Big Takeaway 💡

​While education is profoundly important, perhaps the greatest gift these workshops bring to the table is the opportunity for like-minded folks to really meet and connect.

Real people willing to do the work needed to combat overpopulation and end the suffering it brings.

​This is exactly what we envisioned when we started: humans uniting to save the animals we share our world with. Thank you for bringing "Paws Unite For A Cause" to life!

Kudos to Rita who previously rented a trap from me to fix mama cat, and is already making preparations to get kitten fixed in the next few weeks once it's 2lbs! 👏

THIS is what it takes to get cat populations under control. Not waiting until kittens are weaned (moms can still nurse after being spayed). Not waiting for moms to get pregnant again. Not waiting for the kittens to get old enough to have babies themselves.

Pet overpopulation is an urgent matter!!

I wanted to make sure everyone is aware that both the City and County TNR programs are currently suspended until further notice.

I know this news will be disappointing to many members of the community who care deeply about community cats and are working hard on population control.

At this time, we do not have additional information regarding when the programs may resume. I will share updates as they become available from Animal Allies, but in the meantime, we all appreciate the work that their staff continues to do every day for animals in our community. 💛

Even friendly cats can live fulfilling lives outdoors… while still getting the occasional loving from humans. 🥰 And his little ear tip is what tells others in the neighborhood that he’s already being cared for and not in need of “rescue”.
