Southbury Ridgebacks

Southbury Ridgebacks Welcome to Southbury Ridgebacks! Our aim is to responsibly breed AKC Rhodesian Ridgebacks characterized by health, strength, and ideal temperament.

My name is Angela Sims. I am blessed to live in idyllic Connecticut with my handsome husband, three beautiful daughters, and our darling Daisy. Daisy, the matriarch of Southbury Ridgebacks was chosen for her strength and robust health. I was determined Daisy would be the matriarch because of my knowledge of her mother and grandmother's robust health and consistently healthy litters. To top it all

off, Daisy though strong, powerful, and playful is of the gentlest temperament. I am delighted for Daisy to be our Rhodesian Matriarch. Originally bred for hunting in Africa, Rhodesian Ridgebacks became famous for their bravery in hunting lions. Our goal is to match these special dogs with special humans who will incorporate them into the fabric of their families. I grew up in a home that bred dogs. Continuing that tradition in our own home now is exciting. Having been blessed with excellent and knowledgeable mentors, I am delighted to share these wonderful dogs with you!

I heard some heartbreaking news today about one of our puppies. Chloe from Daisy's first litter had to be put down because of leukemia. She was much too young for this. Chloe was heavily vaccinated as a pup, got fixed as a pup, and then given yearly booster shots until her owner could no longer care for her. She was re-homed with a loving family who stopped her ongoing vet shots. Unfortunately the damage had already been done. I am very grieved. Please RR families let this be a reminder to you to please not over vaccinate your Ridgeback. Review the information you were provided at adoption so you don't make the same mistake. I highly recommend waiting until the pup is at least 2 years and has stopped growing before you have them fixed. This ensures their best health and longest life.

A note from Angela: With all the puppies snug in their homes, puppy season at Southbury Ridgebacks has officially ended. It's time to rest and enjoy my sweet family! I will continue supporting our RR families but I am not at this time planning or dialoguing about future litters. If you are looking for a puppy, I recommend checking out Calveresi Vizsla Ridge Kennel in PA and Longbeau Farms in LA. The Southbury Ridgeback FB page will go offline for a little break starting January 5th. So if you are wondering where we went, we are probably running around with 3 teenage girls and 2 Ridgebacks! Happy New Year!❤️

So thankful our vet office made a house call for the pups' well visits. The puppies showed their gratitude by chewing on Nick's scrubs. :)

As they grow and feel the need to explore, they've ventured out into the house. It didn't take long before they took over Daisy's bed and were drinking out of her water bowl! 😂
