You can’t “love” issues out of your dog - whether it’s leash pulling, resource guarding, or incessant barking. You cant fix them with a harness, or treats. A large portion of training is learning your dogs needs; by doing so they will grow to fit in with your family!i

Coming from a guy with two small children, and a third on a way - having an animal that is untrained on top of the inevitable “controlled” chaos children bring - would be a train wreck. Fortunately, I don’t deal with it; neither should you..

To add context: As you can see by our slogan, my primary occupation involves working a police K-9. Not only is our initial academy over 400 hours - we’re required to conduct a minimum 16 hours of documented monthly training to maintain our level of proficiency.

Reaffirming minor techniques to ensure Penny’s loose leash walk, and watch her respond to her name immediately when off leash, had her owner (and me) feeling satisfied after a couple of sessions.

There’s a lot of traffic within the community groups on “R.C. Dog Care” due to some recent pet deaths…

My unsolicited two cents - which, may or may not benefit someone reading this.. first and foremost, it’s a travesty for the owners and I can’t claim to know the grief they’re experiencing - having their dogs pass when they were out of the area and advised under “shady” circumstances is awful.
•
Now, here’s the thing - 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 “𝗰𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲” 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗲 - much like dog parks.
•
Dogs are pack animals - your family is “the pack” (you - the owner, and your household). It is a made up concept that dogs need “friends” with whom they don’t know - we’re not talking your neighbors dog; these are strange dogs in a facility. Heat exhaustion, bloat, and dog fights can and will happen - it will only be exacerbated if dogs are running amuck for the entirety of the day.

When traveling, find someone trustworthy to come to your home to care for your dog or locate a boarding facility that feeds and cares for your pet - 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 “𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲” 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘁.. you need a facility to keep your dog alive (food, water, climate controlled shelter) not entertain it. Dont be sold on “treat packages,” extra walks, and yard time! 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻…

Wrapped up Echo’s private Pup Program and with the exception of expected incidentals, his on leash behavior and off leash responsiveness in and around the home has been exactly what his owner was hoping for..
