American consumers don't trust the pork industry. It shows in the consistent level or falling markets year on year.
Why is that? First off pork is off limits to a large portion of the world for religious reasons. But also in the United States it is closed door industry often surrounded in mystery and bloggers making up a narrative that people take hook line and sinker.
The confinement hog industry is controlled by large packing houses from the time the piglets are born until they are in the coolers at your local retailer. They are never left outside, and tours of these facilities are strictly prohibited in the name of bio-security and to protect trade secrets. So its a mystery as to what really goes on inside those barns.
Of you don't trust it, I get it. I DON'T EITHER!
There are better options. Pasture raised, right out in the open with nothing to hide, and a friendly farmer open to answer all your questions.
