“The Spell of ‘Hello’”

They were completely locked in—like full-blown CIA surveillance mode.
Laser-focused. Not blinking. Not moving.
Watching my every step like I’m the main event.

My daughter says their names—nothing.
Not a twitch. Not a tail.
Then she says “hello”…
…and one by one, they all turn around.

It’s not food.
It’s not their names.
It’s just “hello.”

I pay the bills.
