Hiring The Right Sitter a little lengthy but if you have a pet then it’s worth the read for your furry family member !❤️
🐾✨ Hiring a Pet Sitter or Dog Walker: Saying I Love dogs is Great… But Let’s Add Some Science! ✨🐾
Loving all dogs is not what keeps someone’s pet your in charge of safe, not to mention their home!

There are so many kind-hearted, well-meaning people out there offering dog walking and pet sitting—and that truly is a beautiful thing 💕🐶. It gives pet parents freedom and helps ensure our pups get the care, exercise, and companionship & enrichment they deserve.
You’ve probably seen the posts:
“Dog lover ❤️”
“Only friendly dogs 🐕”
“No reactivity 🚫”
“My dog is friendly, don’t worry 😊”
“Trying to make some extra money” 🦮🐈🐶🚫
And yes—loving dogs matters. A lot.
But here’s where it gets interesting… 👀
🧠🐕 Let’s Talk a Little Dog Science
Dogs don’t communicate the way we do—they speak in body language. Subtle. Fast. Sometimes easy to miss.
A tucked tail, lip licking, yawning (when they’re not tired), turning their head away…whale eye…even there posture change…hackles…ear position …these are early stress signals. These signals are part of canine behavioral science—your dog quietly saying:
👉 “I’m unsure”
👉 “I need space”
👉 “This could escalate”
Miss those cues, and things can change quickly ⚡
Even the sweetest, “friendliest” dog can react if they feel overwhelmed or misunderstood. That’s not a bad dog—that’s instinct, genetics, and environment all working together 🧬🐾
⚠️ What’s Often Not Being Said
Here’s the part we don’t always see in those cheerful posts:
❓ What are their safety protocols?
❓ Do they understand dog-to-dog interactions beyond “they’ll be fine”?
❓ Can they recognize stress signals before they turn into reactions?
❓ How do they handle an off-leash dog approaching?
❓ What’s their plan when something unexpected happens?
Because real pet care isn’t just about cuddles and cute photos—& certainly not about making extra money… it’s about decision-making in real time 🧠🐕🦺
🎓💼 Let’s Talk About Experience (The Real Kind)
Now here’s a question worth asking…
Is the high school or college student doing this for extra money, starting just a summer business ready to truly keep your pet safe and secure? 🤔
Maybe they are—and that’s great! But it’s worth digging deeper: Asking the tuff questions.. remember once someone is there for your pet - YOU ARE NOT!
👉 Have they taken any time to educate themselves on dog behavior?
👉 Have they ever worked alongside a trainer?
👉 Volunteered in a shelter or rescue?
👉 Spent real time learning how dogs think, communicate, and react?
Or…
Is it more like:
“Yeah, I watched Aunt Jennie’s dog once in her house with the 8-foot fenced yard” “I have had dogs all my life”🤣🦮❤️ or just trying to make some summer extra cash !
Because that’s not the same thing. Not even close.
🌎🐾 This Is Real Life Pet Care
We’re not talking about a casual favor anymore.
We’re talking about:
✨ Your loved family member
✨ Your routine
✨ Your dog’s safety in unpredictable, real-world situations
Walks with unknown dogs…
Unexpected noises…
Loose dogs…
Stress triggers…
New environments…
And you? You’re miles away. ✈️ or at minimum at work 📂
That’s when experience, awareness, and preparation matter most.
🛑 Real Talk from the Field
A lot of the situations we step into—lost dogs, close calls, preventable incidents—don’t come from a lack of love.
They come from a lack of knowledge, awareness, and preparedness.
💡 What Pet Parents Can Do
Let’s shift from “they love dogs” to “they understand dogs” 🙌
Ask questions like:
✔️ How do you read dog body language?
✔️ What would you do if a dog shows stress or reactivity?
✔️ How do you handle off-leash encounters?
✔️ What safety measures do you use during walks and visits?
✔️ What experience do you have beyond your own pet?
Because confidence is good…
But competence is everything 💛
🐾❤️ The Bottom Line
Love is powerful—and it’s where it all starts.
But informed love, backed by real understanding and experience, is what keeps your dog safe, secure, and truly cared for 🐶✨
Because when you’re away…
You deserve worry free peace of mind.
And your dog deserves nothing less than the very best 🐾💖
✨ Who you hire matters.
This is NOT dog / pet care this is FAMILY CARE ❤️ watching your family loved pet like a proud uncle !
🐾 Meet & Greet required — because great care starts with trust, assessment, and mutual approval (from the pets too 🐾🦮🐈❤️).
