Gia got a big fancy makeover today! We’ve been growing her out for almost a year to be able to put her in a Modified Continental Clip (also referred to as a Historically Correct Continental) and I am so happy with the outcome! This is not a trim I have ever been taught how to do, so it’s definitely not perfect and certainly needs a TON of fixing up, but I’m pretty happy with it as a first draft, especially since I really had no clue what I was doing 🫠
A huge thank to my lovely friend, Myah Riker, who always comes to me with fun ideas for Gia’s grooms, and for maintaining the ridiculous amounts of coat that are needed for trims like these! You really are the MVP of poodle owners👏🏻

Prepped with Botaniqa Dog Grooming Solutions basic deep clean, then volume up mixed with harsh and shiny and of course the avocado scissor spray ❤️❤️

It’s not very often I get to talk about myself or my own personal dogs, so I wanted to take this time to introduce myself and talk about some other things I love besides grooming dogs!
My name is Mikayla, but most people call me Mik, I’m 29 years old, my star sign is cancer, I live in South Portland , Maine, and I have a serious addiction to dog sports!
My dogs are Diesel, who is 8, and Denali, who is 4. Me and Denali do lots of different activities including agility, rally, fast cat, barn hunt, and scent work. She has her rally novice title, her advanced trick dog title, and her DCAT title in fast cat. My other dog Diesel does share in our love for dog sports, but he does enjoy a brisk walk through the neighborhood, a good snack, and lots of snuggles. I dream of owning a silver standard poodle that I can show in confirmation, use for grooming competitions, and also continue to do dog sports with.
Dog grooming is not only my career, but it is truly my passion, I love learning new techniques and breed trims and am constantly seeking out new information to better serve your pets and to improve the quality of the grooms I do. My goal is to eventually start doing more show grooming and also dive into the competition grooming world. I have been grooming dogs for 10 years and I love it more and more every day. I love developing relationships with the dogs and also with the pet parents. Nothing makes me happier than a dog that is excited to see me and get groomed, and I strive to give dogs those positive experiences that make them not just tolerate, but enjoy the process.
I have so many grooming goals I hope to achieve in the next year and I look forward to meeting you and your dog! ❤️

Important pet grooming facts!

✨ 1. Regular grooming= healthy skin and coat. Brushing helps distribute natural oils, prevents painful matting, and keeps pet’s skin breathing.

✨2. Nail trims aren’t just for looks. Overgrown nails can cause discomfort, posture and gait problems, and even joint pain.

✨ 3. Ear cleaning helps prevent infections. Grooming isn’t just about the skin and coat, clean ears can help reduce the risk of painful ear infections.

✨ 4. Baths remove more than just dirt. A proper professional bath eliminates dead hair, sebum, allergens, and helps reduce shedding significantly.

✨ 5. Regular grooming= early health check. Groomers are often the first ones to spot lumps, bumps, skin issues, parasites, ear infections, broken nails, dental issues, and more. Because we look so closely at the skin, mouth, ears, and nails, we can easily spot these things and hopefully help you prevent them from becoming more serious.

✨ 6. Reduces stress and anxiety. Regular grooming helps desensitize them to body handling and makes the process easier. A dog that is groomed every 4-8 weeks is often much more relaxed for it than a dog that is groomed every 6 months and always has painful matting, impacted coat, and other issues that make the process more difficult and take longer, causing more stress.
