Friends of Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) that was formed in February of 2010. Friends operates the South Padre Island Animal Shelter and is under contract with the City of South Padre Island to We do not believe in euthanizing for the sake of over population, thus we are a no kill shelter for the City of South Padre Island.

What's Friends of Animal Rescue's role when it comes to shore birds and Island wildlife? We are not a rehab facility, we are a holding facility that makes many trips to our partner, the Gladys Porter Zoo. Currently, birds are the 2nd in intakes this year. We have taken in 46 shore birds for the year.
