Isn’t she lovely 😊. This tricolor beech tree was a must have when we moved here. She was a funky cheep little whip and probably darn near the first thing I planted at this house. This year(starting year 4!) the colors and structure have been a favorite focal point driving up to the house. Because of its eye catching colors it deserves a spotlight post today. What are some of your favorite trees in your landscape?

Ducks doing “duck” things. 🦆

If you’ve been following along in stories, you may have already met our newest homestead additions. If not, here’s the story…

Our larger duck friend had been living alone in a dorm room after being left behind by a previous owner. Many people don’t realize that domestic ducks cannot fly, which sadly makes them vulnerable when dumped or abandoned. They also aren’t meant to live alone — ducks are flock animals and thrive with companionship.

This poor little duck was living in a tub, missing crucial warmth, nutrients, and protein needed during rapid growth. My daughter heard about the situation and brought the duck home… and then her boyfriend showed up with a few more friends.

So here we are — now a family of three until we find out their sexes. Maybe we’ll have duck eggs this fall… or maybe they’re all boys. Time will tell. 🖤

Can we talk about the “Mill Haus” and our sweat equity we are putting in for a minute? When we came across this property I only saw what it could be as we walked it..not necessarily the current condition (well maybe a little..phew that’s for another day). I knew with our skills of artistic creativeness, and trades we could possibly make this home really special again. We are starting in on year 4 and I am still hopeful for something to be completed 💯 percent (but is anything ever fully finished?). Yes I admit I am the dreamer and unfortunately my mind has a million and one versions of what things could be. (So don’t wait to long to finish or I’ll change my mind, lol) However as I am getting older with many dreams and desires I have learned to not wait for a do-er and work on things myself. I tell you what this home has awaken something in me that’s unique and I have been working harder than I ever imagined. I am finding myself and I love the process completely. Here’s another example of how something was when we walked the property and how it looks today(literally). The hill was a massive erosion mess that rotted the basement door where it was all coming in the house. The patio had also sunk in from the run off water and sand. Ivy was running ramped and I quickly leaned there was more than one type of ivy (scratch the itch). In just three years I have started to create a relaxing haven. This summer our local Garden club meeting will be held on this patio and I cant wait to share it with others of a like mind. Thank you for following along as we breathe life back into this space. One small or large discovery at a time. This space has to be my largest pride and joy to date and it’s not done yet…What are some of your favorite renovations you have done?

Talking to the deer tonight and trying to reach an understanding for this gardening season… do you think they approve of my proposal? I am having my first garden club meeting here this July and man they better not clean me out of things to see!

Sourdough discard tortillas. I personally hate wasting food. This is a new venture I tried to use up some discard. I’ll post the results and recipe later when they wrap a beautiful fish taco for dinner.

I know they are not white and bright for all the dying decorative fun. However don’t under estimate the colored fresh eggs. They create great bases for stickers, crayon dipping, marker drawing, or some new fun and exciting non traditional colors with the dyes! Eggs available for this weekend!

Have you seen me? Rushton rd between 9/10 mile. I’m Simba. I snuggled with my mom Saturday night until I wanted to go outside I do get out of hand at night and must go outside to play and hunt sometimes. I was born outside and still love my roots but have adapted inside 50/50. I have not been picked up on my AirTag or the cameras. I am microchipped, vetted, and my information is on my collars in two places. I have a bald tipped tail from a previous injury(darn hair didn’t grow back). I am always in my home in my heated garage in the morning and I seem to have lost my way. My sister and my family are worried sick. Please if you see me help me find my way and take me home!

Today was our fall honey harvest extraction day. I sure have learned a lot with my first full year of beekeeping under my belt. However I have realized that I still have a lot to learn as well as each season brings a new challenge. I will continue to learn and grow this winter with a goal of 4 hives to go into next winter with. So with that said the 3rd honey 🍯 harvest is in the books! Thank you to all that have supported us by purchasing our honey. It has been wonderful to hear all the positive feedback.
