Onyx was one of the lucky dogs who was able to go on the monthly hike this past Sunday. Here is what the volunteer handler had to say about him:

"He was the first dog I ever walked when I joined Westside German Shepherd Rescue of Los Angeles last year - some might say that Onyx was the first Angeleno who befriended me! He does well in the car, loves looking out the window, walks great on leash, and loves to sit outside at brunch and have a burger after our hike. Love this lil’ boy and all his snuggles!"

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - Onyx von Oelsnitz

Onyx von Oelsnitz is a beautiful 18-month-old bicolor German Shepherd. Young and playful, mid-sized Onyx is friendly with everyone at the rescue and always ready for a fun adventure. He's sweet and affectionate and will bury his head in your arms. In a home, he needs a chance to get to know new people before welcoming them in. Super motivated by treats, Onyx knows his basic commands including Sit and Down. He loves his outings at the rescue, including running alongside a bike. While Onyx is very good with dogs in playgroups, he'd rather not share his home with another dog, so he would do best as your one and only dog in the home. (And no cats, please.)

Onyx was rescued by a Good Sam from the South L.A. animal shelter and surrendered to us.

With an approved application, you can meet Onyx at the rescue on adoption days. If you would like to add him to your family, start the process by filling out an application. There is an application button at the bottom of his bio page.

Peach was one of the lucky dogs who was able to go on the monthly hike this past Sunday. Her is what her volunteer handler had to say about her:

"Peach was an absolute peach of a companion during today's hike. She greeted me enthusiastically, and then said, "Let's go!" She demonstrated that same enthusiasm all morning: saying hello to friends 2- and 4-legged, jumping into her transport with no hesitation, and checking out her surroundings with a big smile on her face. Since it was a warm day, Peach sat happily in the shade when given a chance, communing easily with her friend Tasha. She sat patiently for treats and took them gently from the hand. And she told me that she REALLY LOVED my homemade pupcakes (Sorry we didn't get to share with many of our fellow hikers. Ooops!) Rumor is that little Miss Peach does great in the Rescue's front office setting...could she be your new WFH co-worker?"

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - Peach von Pritzier

Peach von Pritzier is a delightful 14-month-old German Shepherd with a beautiful light sable coat who is ready to find her best friend. A very sweet, smart girl, she's a manageable 50 pounds, and walks beautifully on leash. Peach's original owner became unable to care for her and she was taken in temporarily by a family member who is moving. Housebroken and crate-trained, she knows her "sit" and "stay" commands, is eager to learn more, and is treat-motivated. Her energy level is a versatile mid-range; she loves outings or a good game of frisbee, but also settles nicely by your side while you work or for movie night. When we had her in the office at the rescue, it didn't take long before she lay down by our feet. Peach enjoyed daily walks in a park and did great in public meeting new people. She says no for cats but would love a pup playmate. She recently had a blast in playgroup, jumping right into play with other playful dogs, with a gentle play style. If you're looking for a loving, smart companion who balances a calm walking style with a friendly and fun-loving personality, Peach is your girl. No cats, please.

She was an owner surrender - moving out of state.

Dede was one of the lucky dogs who was able to go on the monthly hike this past Sunday. Here is what her volunteer handler had to say about her:

"Loved seeing so many new volunteers and happy dogs at the monthly hike yesterday! Had the privilege of meeting Dede for the first time and it was love at first sight! A little shy, but very sweet and gentle. Great passenger in the car. Hopped right in the back of my van! Loved her treats and took them with a very soft mouth. Knows “Sit” and has excellent leash manners. She would be such a lovely addition to someone’s life!"

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - Dede von Damme

Dede von Damme is a gorgeous 2-year-old German Shepherd.

She was rescued from the San Gabriel Humane Society.

Ebony was one of the lucky dogs who was able to go on the monthly hike this past Sunday. Here is what her volunteer handler had to say about her:

"Ebony!
She is a 10-month-old Lab-mix and full-time sweetheart. Ebony is smart, knows her basic commands and takes leash corrections well. She enjoyed her hike very much and even got to play in the grass for a bit. Since she is still a puppy, she has high energy, but she is also affectionate and loves sitting or lying beside you for breaks or just people-watching. "

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - Ebony von Elsberg

Ebony (aka "Ebby") von Elsberg is the sweetest 10-month-old Lab-mix. Nicknamed "Ebby," she is a truly adorable young girl who is full of fun and good vibes. This black pup with a splash of white on her chest has a short, easy care coat and sunny outlook on life. She definitely has that lab personality - she loves to play with everyone she meets—human or canine, and we think she'd do best with another playful pup in the home. According to a former home, "Everyone who sees her says “what a beautiful dog”. She loves waking up for her morning belly rubs and yoga stretching, visits to the farmers market, and interacting with other dogs during her walks. She learns quickly, enjoys playtime, and her zoomies around the yard. She is very sweet, responds well to treat training, and loves her Kong toys. Ebby welcomes scratching around the ears and neck, and evening chill time in your lap before going to bed is her favorite." She also wants you to know that she is housebroken and crate-trained, and quickly learned her "sit," "down" and "stay" commands. She's as affectionate as she is playful, often switching from a game of tag to asking for butt scratches. Her happy-go-lucky spirit and ability to take social cues from other dogs make her a star in doggy social settings. No cats for her, though. If you are looking for a young and fun pup to nurture and guide, Ebony has all paws raised!

She was found by a Good Sam.

Today is Monday, June 1st, and it is time to turn the page in your 2026 Westside German Shepherd calendar. If you have the Dog of the Day calendar, you get to see and meet Sage.

We adopted Sage from Westside in 2021 when she was a year-and-a-half old. We like to say she came “move-in ready” -- fully trained, full of love, and eager to please her new cat-siblings, Royce and Myka. Our half-German Shepherd/half-Husky adventurer loves long walks on the beach, frolicking in the snow in Tahoe, and camping trips to Carlsbad. When she’s not exploring, she can be found napping, asking for belly rubs or begging for her favorite snack: ice cubes.

Today is Monday, June 1st, and it is time to turn the page in your 2026 Westside German Shepherd calendar. If you have the Blank Day calendar, you get to see and meet Kaylee.

Kaylee, formerly Posey Von Pilsner, was Kristin and Drew’s first WGSR adoptee back in 2010. She lived a long, happy life with them until she passed peacefully in her sleep in 2024 at the age of 14. Kaylee loved everyone and was a wonderful Shepherd ambassador. She went to school with Kristin and wore a number of embarrassing Halloween costumes to amuse the middle and high school students. Kaylee was the Queen of the House to the end, bossing her two younger brothers around and hoarding all the toys like a dragon. Kristin and Drew feel so lucky to have had her in their lives.
