Parasite Alert! Fleas and Ticks are out in full force. 😩 We've had such a mild winter and the parasites took full advantage. We've seen fleas and ticks on dogs and cats already this year. What can you do to protect your pet? The most effective flea and tick prevention is a prescription product. Here at SFVC, we recommend monthly oral Simparica Trio, which takes care of fleas, ticks, heartworm, and intestinal parasites. Other options for just fleas and ticks include monthly Nexgard or Credelio for dogs (oral products), Credelio (oral), or Revolution Plus for cats. Don't want to use a prescription product? Frontline Plus can be purchased over-the-counter. Make sure you purchase the correct size for your cat or dog based on their weight and apply it EVERY MONTH. **Please note: stay away from products with pyrethrins. They are toxic to cats and can cause seizures in some dogs. Flea and tick shampoo and flea and tick collars are NOT EFFECTIVE, so don't waste your time or money.
