Wagging Rights Dog Training Making man’s best friend better

Wanna see a massive improvement in not only your dog’s behavior in general, but also, and perhaps most critically, in the way your dog views you and themselves?

Here’s some simple leadership tips that can massively change your life together with your dog. This stuff has fairly profound ripple effects.

Find the moments where your dog is overly aroused, highly jazzed up, and super pushy about… anything. I shared a partial list of super common stuff, but I’m sure you can find more.

When these moments occur, address your dog firmly (you have to have tools and techniques that are effective), and watch your dog’s behavior, attitude, and respect for you skyrocket.

I’ve seen very, very few owners with dog issues who address this stuff. Most either don’t know how, or most commonly, they don’t realize how important these seemingly inconsequential, “they’re just being a dog” moments are to creating a balanced dog and a healthy relationship.

Often, whether it’s at seminars, or our board and train programs, once we firmly address this stuff, the other behavior issues, or symptoms (reactivity, demand barking, hyper-territoriality, jumping on people, chaotic/pushy nonsense)… magically disappear.

Why? Because you create a self-aware dog. A dog who understands that their actions have consequences connected to them (and so they make better decisions in general), and a dog who understands that you are the one who shares those consequences… making you a relevant and respected leader.

And when these two dynamics come together, life with your dog gets a while let better. :)

I’ve just published “Stress Helps Learning and Bonding.” We often hear that training should be “stress-free,” but the evidence tells a different story. Mild, well-managed stress sharpens learning and can even strengthen the trainer–animal bond. If you work with animals, you may find a few useful insights here. As always, let me know what you think and what your experiences are.

This is Canelo, his owner is going through a tough life transition and feels like Canelo would be better off with a new family. I have done several training sessions with him and can tell you first hand that he is the sweetest dog on the planet. He is very submissive and affectionate with people. He has a fair amount of energy and loves to play. If anyone is interested please contact me at 847-682-2116

Here, Chuy works on boundary setting with food.
You could replace the stimuli of a treat with the doorbell ringing/knocking, food on the counter or almost anything else.
This even works in reverse to show a dog how to stay in a crate they normally want to flight from nervously or over excited zooming out.

Here, Chuy works on a non verbal down with eye contact.
The first phase of this would be to mark the initial "down", but Chuy was on to level 2....check in and relax more.
Start slow and build up to this level of trust and respect.

Our Story

Fellow dog lovers,

My name is Tim Rains and I am the owner and dog trainer of Wagging Rights dog training. I am proud to be serving the fox valley area. One of my biggest joys is helping people learn to communicate with their dogs and increase the bond between them. It’s amazing to watch dogs learn and equally as amazing when people realize their dogs can be helped. I greatly enjoy being able to solve behavior problems always with the goal in mind to improve the lives of families and dogs.

Since the age of 7 dogs have been an important part of my life. My family dog growing up was a 90lb brindle boxer named Champ. I always enjoyed teaching Champ to do things. I had no idea at the time that what I was doing was correct, but looking back on it I was on the right track.

My brother Waylon really furthered my interest in dogs. Waylon liked a lot of mastiff and bulldog breeds all in the working breed group of dog breeds and some in the terrier group. Waylon and I would talk a lot about our favorite breeds and what it would be like to one day own them. We would compare a lot of breeds and spent a good amount of time reading the Dog Breed Bible and many other similar books.
