🎉 Tube-Feeding Saves Lives!
😻 Crash the Kitten Update!
Yesterday was the first day Crash drank from a bottle! He only drank 2-3 ml and needed to still be tube-fed after for the rest of what he needs to keep alive BUT HE DID IT 🎉 Today he has continued to drink a little bit more and we are fingers crossed we will be able to stop tube-feeding him soon. Its a great indicator that he’s feeling better and stronger. Crash is beating all the odds!
Crash has been tube-fed since arriving at our foster home 8 days ago. For those past 8 days, every 2-3 hours around the clock, we have inserted a small tube (we use FR4 size for neonates under 200g) into his mouth, down to his stomach and dispensed nutrients from an attached syringe to keep him alive. We almost always offered the bottle first at every feed only to have his face turn away and not feel well enough to eat. We gladly did all the work for him to make sure he got the calories, hydration and nutrients to continue to live until he felt better. Then we noticed him rooting at our fingertips and we were SO excited when he found the bottle ni**le and enthusiastically suckled. It may have only been a few sips at first, but it’s a huge life-changing milestone for him!
Go, Crash, Go!!
