Daisy Mae’s Heartbeat of Hope 💓
When animals arrive as strays at DuPage County Animal Services, they are given hope. Animals at the shelter are provided with the proper care to ensure that they can have a second chance in the loving home they deserve. Among the many strays that the shelter takes in, 5-month-old Mastiff mixes, Daisy Mae (formerly Cheerio) and Sampson (formerly Captain Crunch) found themselves in the care of DuPage County Animal Services. These two were placed into a loving foster home, quickly becoming their permanent home. With so much cuteness, who could blame them?
While Daisy Mae was in foster care, the shelter discovered that she had a grade VI heart murmur. Upon this news and since being adopted, she went to a Veterinary Specialty Center for a further exam and echocardiogram. The results are devastating. Daisy Mae has Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a common congenital heart defect in dogs that occurs when the ductus arteriosus, a blood vessel that normally closes after birth, remains open. This allows blood to flow abnormally between the heart’s main arteries, which can lead to serious heart problems. Most dogs with PDA do not survive the first year of life. The mortality rate for dogs with PDA is 64% within the first year of life for most dogs and well above 80% for the second year of life.
This is where Daisy Mae’s story needs YOUR help. We’re reaching out to the community to help cover the cost of Daisy Mae’s life-saving surgery. The surgery is estimated to be around $7,000. At just 5 months old, Daisy Mae, with your help, has the chance to receive the surgery she deserves to live out the rest of her many years alongside her littermate and loving family. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly to ensure that Daisy Mae gets the treatment she desperately needs and quickly.
With your support, we can give Daisy Mae the future she deserves- a long, healthy life filled with love and adventures with her brother. Together, we can give her heart the strength to beat on.
