With summer coming to a close, be sure to check your dogs for burrs after walking outside. Big or small, burrs should be removed as quickly as possible once noticed, as they can be very painful against the skin. If left in the fur, or if the fur gets wet, burrs will get tighter to the skin, making it more uncomfortable for your dogs and increasing the chances of needing to shave them out. The best way to get burrs out is to use a brush or comb to gently spread the hairs and remove the burrs. Using a detangling spray or something like corn starch can help free up clusters of tight burrs. Yankee Doodle Home Services is also available for de-burring on short notice, so don’t hesitate to reach out!
