Cara's House-Ascension Parish Animal Shelter Cara's House is the open intake shelter for Ascension parish. We striv We do not accept animals on the weekends. FOSTERING SAVES LIVES!!!!

As a 501c3 non-profit shelter, we strive to provide the best care for the animals in our shelter while they wait for their forever homes. Although Ascension parish government does supply some funding for our operations, we rely heavily on volunteers, donations, and fundraising to generate the funds needed to care for the animals in our facility. Cara's House relies greatly on the public's support

to help provide the best care for our shelter animals. Without your contributions of time and money, we would not be able to care for the approximately 3,000 animals a year that come through our doors. POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:

ADOPTIONS:

Please come by any time during our normal business hours if you are interested in adopting. Dog Adoption - $115
Cat Adoption - $85

STRAYS:
We only take animals from Ascension parish. If you have found a stray that you need to bring in, please call (225)675-0400 or come by during our normal business hours Monday-Friday. OWNER SURRENDERS:
Surrenders are by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Once online form is completed, shelter staff will contact you to set up appointment. If you have an animal that needs to be surrendered, please click on the link below:

$50 -unaltered animal
$25-altered animal(proof required)

OWNER RECLAIM:
You must have proof of ownership and proof of current rabies vaccination to reclaim an animal. If not reclaimed in 3 days, an adoption fee will be charged. First offense--$50
Second offense-$100
Third offense-$150 or you can loose ownership of your animal. If you are interested in fostering, please send a private message to our page.
