Georgie update:
Georgie was diagnosed with systemic crypotococcus a month ago. He turns 3 in May and was very healthy until this disease took him down out of nowhere. He's now blind and lost a lot of weight.
He's being treated at UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Initially he got better on the fluconazole and we started Amphotericin treatments. When I took him for the 6th Amphotericin treatment last week, his kidney values were at 1.3 and they wanted to keep him overnight on IV fluids, which I agreed to. The next day his kidney values spiked to 2.0 and his appetite became non-existent. The vet identified it as the Neoformans species, which she told me has a worse prognosis than the Gatti strand. They determined he wasn't responding to the treatment and prescribed a new antifungal, Posaconazole. They held him over a few more days and got his kidney values back down.
On Friday, they sent us home with a long list of medications. It's been a battle all weekend trying to get him to drink water and eat. 💔 He's also become incontinent which I think may be a combination of weakness and side effects from the drugs. I'm now trying to syringe feed him but it's a challenge. It does seem to be helping with his energy and bathroom habits though.
Any advice for syringe feeding or loss of bladder control in cats?
Also, any success stories with pets going through similar situations would be appreciated.
