How to compare lasers?

There are many different models of equine lasers available- but they are not all created equal.

Laser is actually an acronym for light amplification by stimulated emission rays (LASER. When we use a laser therapeutically it sends focused light waves deep into the body. Lasers are classified from I to IV depending on their wavelength, power and mode. The most commonly used models in equine are either IIIb or IV.

When utilizing laser to promote tendon and ligament healing it is essential to ensure the laser can generate enough power for the light wavelength to pe*****te to the target structure.

Our Smart RLT is a class IV cold laser (even though it warms up the tissue) has proven power and regenerative capabilities.

Why is scar tissue the enemy of good ligament healing?

When a tendon or ligament is damaged the normal elasticity of the tissue is compromised. As a functional shock absorber for the body having the ability to absorb and redirect energy of loading and movement is an essential function for tendon and ligaments. As the body rapidly tries to heal an injury the fibers of the tendon and ligament are shortened and misaligned. When they scar like this they are predisposed to reinjury because they no longer absorb the load effectively.

Laser therapy and shockwave are two modalities that we use most commonly to influence the way a tendon or ligament is healing to try to reduce scar tissue formation.

Laser therapy is a cornerstone of our treatment protocols for tendon and ligament injuries.

The Sound Regenerative Laser Therapy (RLT) is unlike any other. The RLT delivers amazing results through short high energy pulses which pe*****te deep into affected tissues to promote natural healing and prevent inelastic scar tissue formation.

Initial protocols often involve lasering a region three times a week. The consistency of this protocol continually reminds the body to keep re-aligning the tissue as it heals.

Did you know that we offer in the field rehabilitation consultations?

One of the most challenging aspects of managing a horse's injury is to come up with a comprehensive plan to get them back to feeling their best. At our rehabilitation boarding facility we take of the planning and ex*****on but we recognize that some patients may need to stay in their home environment while they recover. We are happy to develop a detailed rehabilitation plan for at home. We teach you how to implement specific exercises and guide you through the process.

Give us a call (805) 496-0505 if you think an at home plan might be right for you!

Introducing a horse to the aquatread is a process, but we are there every step of the way. Our team is patient- meeting each horse where they need to be to gain confidence. Our veterinarians oversee the process and progression of their plans. The aquatread is an incredible tool both for return to function and fitness to prevent injury.

If you would like to know more about how this can be incorporated into your existing program please email [email protected].
