Good Morning, Paw Prints Family and visitors. I want to share with you a very informative video about this new respiratory illness found in dogs and also our plans to minimize the risk of spreading this illness.
At the present time there are no documented cases in Kentucky, however there are cases in Illinois, Indiana and Georgia, among further states. I will continue daily checks to track when cases are found in our beautiful state. It's concerning with people traveling for Thanksgiving with their pets, so we'll keep a close watch on this situation.
These are things we are doing to minimize spread of any illness. Our policy has always been we never allow pets of different households to roam together or have contact with one another. We also stagger appointments throughout the day to minimize the amount of dogs in our salon at the same time, although we do usually have a few at the same time. This is due to varying completion times and when the pet parent is available to pick up their pet. Tools, equipment and pet holding areas are sanitized between pets.
Things we ask you to do include monitoring your pets' health closely. Avoid unnecessary play dates with other dogs. If your dog is showing symptoms of lethargy, coughing, sneezing or excessive eye or nose drainage near the time of a scheduled appointment, please call us at 606-677-9404 to cancel your appointment. You should then take your dog to the veterinarian so they can run tests to rule out other illnesses so they can determine if your dog could have this new strain of illness. Isolate your dog from other dogs, including dogs in your household until you know the cause of symptoms. It is important to have your dog examined by a veterinarian to make sure there is not pneumonia present, as many of the dogs who have died from this illness have progressed to pneumonia.
Because our lobby is small, we also ask if you notice someone in the lobby when you arrive, that you wait until they leave to bring your dog in. This will ensure dogs are not in close proximity at intake.
Please watch this post from Instagram, it's the most informative one I've seen yet.
