As our two-year anniversary approaches and
after a lot of thought, heartache, and some very difficult decisions, I have decided to close Missing Mutts Search and Rescue.
When I started this group nearly two years ago, I had one goal: to help bring lost animals home to the families who desperately missed them. I poured my heart, soul, time, and energy into every search. Every animal mattered to me, and every family became a part of my journey.
Unfortunately, behind the scenes, these past two years have brought challenges and hurt that many people will never fully understand. I have shared some of what I have been dealing with since leaving another rescue group and starting my own. What should have been something filled with compassion, teamwork, and a shared love for animals became something that has taken an emotional toll on me.
I never started this group for recognition, praise, or anything in return. I did it because I genuinely love helping animals and the people who love them.
To every family who trusted me, and every person who shared a flyer, reported a sighting, donated, or simply offered kind words — thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I will forever cherish the animals we helped bring home, the friendships made, and the lives we touched along the way. I will never get over the ones we could not save.
I may be closing this chapter, but I will never regret the lives I helped save.
Sometimes walking away from something you love is the hardest decision you will ever make. But there comes a point when you have to choose your own peace and well-being.
I wish things could have ended differently.
Thank you for believing in me, supporting Missing Mutts, and being part of this journey.
This isn’t the goodbye I wanted, but it’s the goodbye I need to make.
With love and gratitude,
🐾 Melissa from Missing Mutts Search and Rescue ❤️
