They say actions speak louder than words—and in dog training, silence is often the most powerful tool you have. 🤫🐾

In this video, we're getting ready for a walk. Instead of repeating "sit!" or "stop!" (which often just adds more "noise" to an already excited dog), I’m using my body language and patience to wait for him to choose calmer behaviors.

When we stop talking and start waiting, we give our dogs the space to think and self-regulate. Watch how his energy shifts once he realizes that the process of going for a walk only moves forward when he’s calmer.

Did you know dogs "talk" with their whole bodies? 🐶👀

Most people wait for a growl or a bark to know a dog is unhappy, but by then, the dog is already at the top of their stress "ladder."

The secret to a happy, safe relationship with your pup is learning to recognize the quiet signs they give us long before they feel they have to act.

How to read the ladder:
🟢 Bottom Rungs: These are "polite" requests for space. If your dog is yawning (when not tired), licking their lips (or a person or other dog), or turning their head away, they are saying, "I'm a little uncomfortable right now."
🟡 Middle Rungs: As they move into the yellow and orange zones, their body becomes stiff and they may stop blinking. This is a clear "Please stop" signal.
🔴 Top Rungs: When the lower signals are missed or ignored, a dog feels they have no choice left but to growl, snap, or bite to protect themselves.

Understanding this chart helps us advocate for our dogs and prevent stressful situations before they start! 🛡️❤️

Note that most dogs won't show every signal, and some dogs may skip "rungs."
