Basic Obedience Commands I use.
Pick a ‘release’ word. I use OK. If he does a command correctly, like wait or down, he needs some verbal queue to know he can move. OK just works for me.
Sit = sit
Leave it = leave it alone / don’t get distracted (you can use this as you’re coming up to a distraction also, like prepping him to be under control)
Wait= wait in a sit or down position until released. Use a flat palm ✋🏿 motion toward snout to reinforce you want him to wait.
Come= come to you. He knows what you’re asking so you may need to go get him if he’s not responding to the verbal command. Work with the COME command and a treat reward in a controlled environment like your house. Ask him to ‘come’ when he complies have him sit, give him a treat, release with OK then ignore and move on with life. Short and sweet.
Down = ‘Lay Down’
Off = get off of something (like a person when he is jumping up)
These two are easily confused by handlers. So make sure you’re consistent ordering down and off they are two completely separate things to him. He will be confused if you say down when he’s jumping up on somebody, that is an OFF command. Consistency is key.
