🚨 WE ARE STILL IN URGENT NEED OF A NEW FOSTER HOME FOR DUCKY! 🚨
🐾 Meet Griffin, affectionately known as Ducky! 🦆
Ducky came to Sno Valley Pet Services in May after being found severely emaciated. No owner ever came forward to claim him. His past is a mystery, but his physical condition tells us that life wasn’t very kind to this sweet boy.
Due to long-term malnutrition and what we suspect was extended confinement in a kennel far too small for him, Ducky has some unique physical characteristics. He has laxity in the joints of his toes and wrists, giving him big, flat, splayed-out feet. And that’s exactly how he earned the nickname Ducky! 🦆
Ducky has come an incredibly long way since May, but his journey isn’t over. He urgently needs a new foster home. Or better yet, a forever home!
WHAT IS DUCKY LIKE?
Ducky is an absolute sweetheart who LOVES people! He’s affectionate, enthusiastic, goofy, and hasn’t met a person he doesn’t want to love.
When Ducky first came to us, he had a habit of gently grabbing people’s hands or legs with his mouth to lead them where he wanted them to go. We’ve worked hard on correcting this behavior, and he’s made tremendous progress!
He hasn’t been doing this recently, but we want to be transparent that the excitement of a new environment could cause the behavior to resurface. If it does, he’ll need someone willing to calmly redirect him and reinforce what he’s learned.
To be very clear, this is not biting or nipping. It’s a behavior he developed before coming into our care, and he’s learning more appropriate ways to communicate.
🐕 WHAT ABOUT OTHER DOGS?
Ducky LOVES other dogs! Sometimes a little too much. 😂
He hasn’t quite mastered the art of reading other dogs’ social cues and can be a bit of a pest when another dog has decided playtime is over.
We believe much of this comes from his past. Ducky likely missed out on important opportunities to play, socialize, and learn boundaries. In many ways, he’s an oversized puppy who’s still figuring out how the world works.
Ducky can absolutely live with other dogs, but we’ll require a successful meet and greet. Resident dogs should be tolerant of his enthusiasm and have a place to retreat when they’ve had enough of his antics. We think a buddy is something Ducky would love.
🐈 WHAT ABOUT CATS?
Ducky currently lives with three cats and loves them! He gets excited when they run and play, but he has never attempted to grab them. He’s done very well sharing his home with his feline friends.
👧 HOW ABOUT KIDS?
Ducky loves kids, too! However, he’s an enthusiastic boy who doesn’t always realize his own size. We believe a home with dog-savvy children over the age of 10 could be a good fit.
IF I FOSTER, WHAT DOES SVPS PROVIDE?
Everything Ducky needs! That includes:
* Food and supplies
* Equipment
* Veterinary care through Salish Veterinary Hospital
* Guidance and training for his rehabilitation exercises
WHAT DO WE ASK OF YOU?
Ducky doesn’t need a perfect foster home. He needs someone patient, committed, and willing to help him become the best version of himself.
Ducky needs daily exercise, some of it to target areas of his legs and feet that need additional strengthening. We’ll provide the guidance and support to help you succeed.
