RDZC Ranch has been in operation since 2001. I strive to provide healthy, happy, well socialized, high quality chinchillas RDZC Ranch was established in 2001.
I focus primarily on standard grey and black velvet chinchillas, but I do have a few breeders to produce white, pink white, violet, ebony, and Lowe's recessive white. Since I do not focus on these mutations, they are not often available for sale. Since starting in chinchillas, animals from my breeding have taken numerous high placing awards from reserve class champions through grand show champion.
My animals are selected based on quality, health, and often even temperament. All babies born here are handled from the moment they are born and are well socialized with people and other chinchillas. Any baby born here would make an excellent pet and many of the animals I grow out would make excellent, high quality breeding animals. Prices for animals will depend upon gender, age, and color and the starting price list can be found on our website at www.rdzcranch.com/for-sale
I am happy to help any new owner or breeder for chinchillas, but please keep in mind that breeding is not something to be taken lightly. I require that you be mentored for a minimum of five years by myself or another experienced, reputable breeder that I am well acquainted with if you choose to go down the path of breeding. Mentorship includes visits by me to inspect your setup and ensure proper safety of caging for mothers and babies and extensive talks on chinchilla health, anatomy, genetics, and breeding in which you are required to keep and maintain a notebook of important information. All of your chinchillas for breeding should be pedigreed and properly evaluated for health and quality by an expert breeder before being paired to produce babies. Just as with breeding any other animal, you are going to be responsible for bringing another animal into the world and this is not something to be taken lightly just to produce cute babies. We love to help new breeders and strongly encourage doing this as long as it is done properly. The average lifespan of a chinchilla is 10-15 years, so a commitment to a chinchilla as a pet or breeder is the same as it would be for a dog or a cat. These are rodents, but they are long lived with amazing personalities and deserve to have a lifelong home. Please consider this age range and their very specific temperature housing conditions before considering purchasing a chinchilla.

We have two owner surrenders now available. Meet Jigglypuff and Swift Wind! These two well cared for sweet chinchillas are in need of furever homes where they can receive all the spoiling! Please see our website for details on adoption and fees.
This older male is an owner surrender that was previously surrendered here by his original owner a couple of years ago. He is brought back a second time due to difficult life changing circumstances for his adopters. Jigglypuff is a fairly calm standard male and gets along well with other chinchillas. He's looking for a permanent home where he can spend his senior years in comfort with some good spoiling.
Swift is an absolute sweetheart that was bred here at RDZC. She was born 8/10/19 so she is coming up on five years old this summer! She is friendly with other chinchillas and currently caged with Annabelle. Swift is very easy to handle and what I consider a cuddly chinchilla with a very calm personality. Her cuddly personality also means she is more docile and shy than other chinchillas and will not readily explore and adventure. She is a TOV homozygous tan and a very unique color we no longer breed for here. She is a good sized fluffy princess and looking for her forever home.
A blessing and a curse to have so many babies at one time. 😮💨Just got the last babies off of hand feeding and noticed a two week old baby was looking small. Turns out mom has really bad mastitis and despite my best efforts in treating it, the infection and backup is so severe I opted to pull all three babies from her to administer more harsh treatments. The two bigger, healthier brothers ended up with Yan that just weaned her babies. This guy needs some extra attention because of weight loss...so he is alternating between some hand feedings with me and nursing on a new mom that has a single kit. He prefers his foster momma to the supplement, which is good, but he needs some extra help with supplementation to get back to a good body score. So I'm back on double duty with taking care of mom and her mastitis and tracking and monitoring the babies with their foster moms. Fingers crossed I can pull them all through this. 🤞
Meet Mephitis! This gorgeous little girl is brand new and so stinking cute. I can't wait to see how she turns out with all these crazy dark markings! She will be staying here to continue and improve our curly lines! She is an aunt to our beautiful Yan.
Meet Annabelle! She is a lovely 13 month old standard female looking for her new home. She is energetic and curious, but easy to hold and readily seeks out snuggles. I had a hard time getting her still on video because she was actively crawling onto me over and over and we had to keep taking snuggle breaks for her comfort. She is available now for 2️⃣5️⃣0️⃣
A little late in posting them, but these two cuties were born here on 4/20 over the weekend! Meet Piper (standard girl) and Roach (mosaic boy).
Just a happy update! Our little handfed guy is going strong and took to a foster momma which gives me a lot less supplementing as her milk starts coming in more. Pretty soon I won't be handfeeding him anymore!
Meet Hotdog! This young, year old standard male is looking for his furever home. He was a part of our show string last season and didn't make the cut for going into our breeding herd and his sweet personality makes him a great candidate for a pet home. His name is Hotdog because he loves to show off in his cage and bounce off the walls and do all the acrobatics and it reminded me of when I was a teenager and we told my dad that my brother and his best friend were "hotdogging" out on the jet skis and he proceeded to call them "hotdogs" for the rest of the vacation trip because English is his second language and he didn't quite get the term. He is very friendly and gets along great with other chinchillas. He is very easy to handle and loves his scritches.
He is available for 2️⃣2️⃣5️⃣
Sleeping peacefully on a full tummy. This little guy is from a litter of triplets and his siblings have successfully bullied him fully off of nursing on mom. Now I get to step in and hand feed because mom is not even keeping him warm. Thank goodness he likes the supplement milk so far and is still active and willing to eat. Fingers crossed for this little cutie! He is only a few days old.
We are in the middle of a massive baby boom here...pretty sure every girl out there is pregnant. I was doing my baby check this morning and found a new baby just born under a girl that wasn't on my expectant list and just as I was about to leave the room for the morning, I turned and saw what I thought was a dead/stillborn baby. When I went closer to remove the body, he took a breath and I immediately went to work. I lost him on the way into the house, but with some warming, light chest compressions, and stimulation...I was able to get him back and breathing. He's a tough little guy and after a couple hours of recovery he's looking like a normal newborn and nursing on momma with his two siblings. So glad I found him on my morning check and was able to intervene before it was too late. It was just the good turn I needed after losing one of the Easter quads late last night.
These crazy temperature swings are NOT in newborn babies' favors. Yesterday was almost warm enough to turn on the a/c and today is cold enough to need a heater. The sudden swings are definitely making it harder for me to keep the barn at a moderate temperature that is more favorable for baby survival. 😣
Yan's little sister is just...OMG! I can't! She's so cute!!!!
We had a busy Easter, but happy Easter! Woke up to a new soaking wet litter of four and unfortunately all four were very cold. Mom didn't have the energy to clean each one while birthing the next and though she was sitting on them and attentive, I decided to give her a helping hand. All four came inside for a quick warm up and drying to give mom a moment to tend to herself as well. Mom is experienced and very attentive to her babies, so I'm hoping they are all able to stay with her. We named the boys Haysoos and Bunny and the girls are Egg and Ishtar. Fingers crossed for these little guys, but no fighting so far and all four are staying snuggled and nursing on momma. This is dad's (a class champion from Applewood Chinchillas) first litter, so going to grow out these cuties for show! 😍
MCBA nationals was so much fun this year! So glad we made the crazy 2,000+ mile long drive out for it this year and can't wait to do it again next year!
Our chinchillas are still recovering from a bad batch of hay and husbandry issues, but they did well!
Our beautiful young dark ebony male took section champion ebony male. This gorgeous guy which is out of an RDZC bred animal and a Sunshine Chinchillas ebony.
We also had a young standard male take phase champion bred out of Royal Chinchilla's lines.
One of the gorgeous Applewood Chinchilla bred TOV ebony girls took reserve phase champion.
The rest of the 13 total animals I showed took two firsts and the rest seconds and thirds mostly on condition, a few were just too old and over on color. Overall I think they did great with being in recovery and traveling over 2,000 miles!
Congrats to all the winners from the show! Very deserved wins!
Oh my cuteness! 😍😍 Sweet little white ebony curly. Newest baby sister to Yan. Can't wait to see how she grows!! And, yes...she hates me already because I held and kissed her a ton because she's too cute not to. 🤣
If looks could kill...
Something tells me she wasn't a fan of the travel. Oops... 🤣🤣 I mean...it was ONLY 2,000 miles. I don't know why she would be pissed...🤭
Quick stop in Moorcroft, WY! Back on the road again after a gas fill up and grabbing some coffee. Also a few minutes for the kids to sit on the dinosaur...
This curly male is now available! He is about 8 months old and would be an excellent pet or breeder. Good color and good curls...a little small in size, but he has time to grow still. Older siblings have grown to be 650-700g and taken 1st place at shows.
Still working hard making ALL the crochet chinchillas for the upcoming MCBA, Inc. National chinchilla show in Auburn, IN. Can't make it, but interested in a crochet chinchilla?? Send me a message OR you can order through Etsy at https://www.etsy.com/shop/FuzzysGamingCrochet
***Travel notice***
March 9th-Snohomish, WA to Billings, MT
March 10th-Billings, MT to Sioux Falls, SD
March 11th-Sioux Falls, SD to Bull Valley, IL
My available chinchillas can be seen on my website at www.rdzcchinchillas.weebly.com/for-sale There are also 2 standard females from ABC Chinchilla's fall show string available as well as one standard male (all breeding quality, but would also make excellent pets. The male is exceptionally mellow).
There is a $60 transport fee to bring a chinchilla along as space is limited and we will have to do some shuffling. Keep in mind, this is far far below the $600+ it costs for shipping and the $200+ a transport would cost. No carriers available for purchase on this trip as...again...space is very limited. Must be able to meet along my planned route and arrive within a 30 minute window (15 minutes before or after scheduled meet time) as we will have small children along that cannot wait long at a stop.
Transport is also available on the reverse trip and list of available animals will expand to include whatever ABC Chinchillas has available. Please message her for a list. Dates for return are March 25-28 (Stops and exact dates TBD).
Just an exhausted momma. The babies started biting at each others' noses just a few hours after birth. I made the tough call to move one to a foster mom. The only mom with a singleton baby that I had when making this decision is nursing month old Ruby May's mom. I usually like to keep kits within a week or two age range, but I know Ruby's momma well and she's a great mom, so I decided to see if Ruby could be a good big sis. I'm happy to say she took to him immediately and groomed him and snuggled him right alongside mom...so much so that he tried to nurse on Ruby before nursing on the foster mom. 🤣 Of course, after the bonding was all done and he was happily nursing on a new foster mom, one of my other females, Puffy, decided to litter with a single fat standard girl at dinnertime. Thanks, Puffy...like...6 hours too late, ma'am. I'm glad that I now have Puffy as a backup for the three girls still with momma Yan, though. If the three of them start fighting I will have to foster one with Puffy.
Not a great photo, but Yan finally decided to let her babies out! She, of course, has to make things difficult for me and decided she wanted to have FOUR babies for her first litter. 😨 She had a tan girl, tan boy, ebony girl, and a white ebony girl. All four are very healthy and great weights for a litter of quads. There is some slight squabbling already so I will likely need to foster out one of her babies. Fingers crossed for these babies! Quads are never a fun number for me and I don't usually have all four survive. Momma Yan is very tired from pushing out all four babies, but she did a great job...now it's my turn to work on making sure all four get to stick around!
Yan is still pregnant...still standing and waiting for babies. Another female had her babies, though! Two extra dark ebony boys! Super cuties and so fat and healthy and FLUFFY!
Some good news and some bad...the violet girl FINALLY had her babies this morning! Unfortunately, the first was a girl and breech and I did not get outside in time to assist with her birth and she passed away in the birth canal. Mom is ok, though, and was able to successfully give birth to two boys after that. I was drying off brother #1 and knew we had one more on the way when brother #2 popped right out...so we get a sopping wet baby photo of him. They are all fluffed up now and the cutest things. Mom got some extra treats for her efforts today.
While I don't have any Valentine's babies to share because my chinchillas don't actually love me...here is a throwback to a Valentine set I did for a potential chinchilla calendar that never really took off. How cute is this violet??
Maybe if I post photos of them in their overly pregnant states...they will give me babies. I WANT TO SNUGGLE THE BABIES! GIVE EM UP, LADIES! I've been watching the violet girl's belly being the dance floor for her soon to be here babies for over a week now. Poor Yan just looks uncomfortable all day and is enjoying getting scritches and extra attention and treats.
Welcome to the world little R1, baby Ruby-May.
In a massive coincidence that an only happen to two besties impatiently waiting for baby chinchillas...RDZC R1 was also born today and is an adorable standard girl! Pictures soon, but leaving mom and baby to get comfortable for now.
We are about to have a baby boom, though...there are at least 6 girls out there ready to explode and I've been staring like a creeper at my poor MBBW violet girl to have her first litter. I watch those babies kick the bajeezus out of my poor girl every day and hope today is the day...but nope. She's just miserable. Also, my little sheepy girl Yan is due with her first babies soon! I got to feel them kick tonight and I'm so excited for her little sheepy babies!!!
When the best part of your day is getting to hold your chinchilla Fat Pat when helping feed the chinchillas. And yes, my chinchilla barn is decorated in butterfly stickers from my helpers.

Emma has decided to call this guy Buddy. He and a few others are still available and super sweet and easy enough for a 2.5 year old to handle.
The curlies are my sweetest line. I'm not sure why, but all of them have personalities like this...absolute snuggle bugs and so sweet and calm. Yan is my perfect little sheep! 😍😍
This super sweet, chunky boy was being held back for my show string and breeding. He loves holding hands and getting scritches and is a big cuddler. The perfect chunky boy for someone to love on! I decided to keep a different male for the breeding spot I had in mind for this guy, so he is now available. He is a little over a year old and would be perfect for a first time owner or someone just looking for an oddly cuddly, snuggly, and sweet big fluffy boy. He is from our show lines, so he has a LOT of fluff to him and he feels like a super plushy chinchilla and he is very chonky.
I'm absolutely shocked this adorable and super sweet and friendly TOV tan male hasn't been snatched up yet. He is still looking for his forever home. www.rdzcranch.com/for-sale
Every time I say I hate quad litters...someone always has to ask "why?" This is why. 90% of the time at least one of the babies will not have received proper nutrition in utero. This little beige guy is one of four babies...after watching them the first 24 hours, I contemplated pulling both him and his mosaic brother to handfeed. I checked them both thoroughly and figured out this guy was declining rapidly, while his mosaic brother (who is also very small) was very energetic and had a nice full stomach. We are on day 3 of handfeeding for this guy and he has improved greatly with energy and acting more like a baby. He loves his formula too, so he is easy to feed so far. He isn't a big eater, so he has to stay with me throughout the day and get fed every 30-60 minutes to try to get 1ml in him every two hours for proper weight gain. Keep your fingers crossed for our little guy. I'm very hopeful for him, but he isn't stable yet.
The most commonly asked question I get from potential customers is always something along the lines of... "Is the chinchilla friendly?" "Is the chinchilla ok with being handled?" Ask any reputable breeder and this is probably the most frustrating question to answer. Why? Because chinchillas are prey animals and we have years of daily handling experience...what is easy to handle for us or friendly to us has a completely different definition than what a potential new owner might be picturing in their head. Chinchillas as a general rule are not cuddly and do not enjoy or like to be handled...does this mean they can't or shouldn't be handled? No, but it does mean you need to be willing to put in time and effort with them to get them used to what you expect for handling. All chinchillas born to reputable breeders are handled from the day they are born and they are used to humans because they see us and interact with us on a daily basis. They aren't put in a glass terrarium surrounded by other animal scents and sounds and harassed by any human that ventures through the door for the day, so they are typically far more docile and friendly than what you would get at a pet store. They have only known human attention in a positive manner from the day they were born...so you do yourself a huge favor in purchasing a well bred animal from a reputable breeder than buying one from a pet store with all the trauma associated with being a floor display. No matter how friendly the chinchilla however, they still need time to adjust to a new human. Is every chinchilla you take home instantly going to be instagram star worthy and hold still for pictures and cute videos? Absolutely, 1000% a big fat NO. Chinchillas learn to trust their owners and are trainable to an extent. You can train them to hold still or pose, but all of it takes time with repetition and positive reinforcement and some chinchillas have a higher propensity for learning certain behaviors and tricks. Just like with d
Not everything is easy with breeding these crazy little rodents. This girl was almost unresponsive and icy cold yesterday. After some TLC and lots of warming, she latched right back onto momma. Still wobbly today, but I think she will be ok!
"You think Tink Stoopid? Hooman. Read my lips...Tink hate you. Why you put WOOD in my face??? First...first o-fence you is tell Tink no more snak, then you make Tink share with stinky boy...now you treat Tink like a dirty beaver?!??! Give snak! I no talk to you anymore until I get snak. I no care you stoopid 'skayle' say I not getting smaller...Tink is starve!"
"WHAT DA FLUFF IS DIS??? NOT SNAK!!! GIB TINK DA SNAK!!! I PULL YOU HAND IN HERE AND BITES IT HOOMAN! SNAK NOW!!!" #patiencelevelTink
Sometimes, the chubby boys don't understand how to use a run. This is a losing battle for me trying to help this guy. He decided he likes his white girl and now won't get out of her hole. I'm going to have to put ledges or something in his cages to help out. 🥺
I had a scary morning here at the ranch. Breeding is not always cute baby announcements and sometimes it ends in heartbreak. I went to do my morning feed and check on the chins and one of my girls I thought might be pregnant came to the front of the cage with blood streaked all down her belly. I knew she had given birth, but couldn't see the baby. He was tucked in the far back corner of the cage, not moving and nearly frozen. It is not that cold in the chinchilla room but this boy felt like an ice cube. I pulled him out expecting the worst, but he squeaked once. I was able to warm him up and stimulate him over the next 30 minutes until he could start using his legs again. We aren't completely out of the woods yet, but he has a heating pad and Mom is being very attentive. Fingers crossed for our not so little J12 that wore mom out. The video shows just progress after 20 minutes of warming. He started out gasping and unable to move any limbs.
