Here are a few fun ways to celebrate your pups' sibling relationship today:

Playtime: Engage in a fun game together. Imagine a few border collies playing soccer together! Let them show off their teamwork skills. 🦴 Consider having 1 toy per dog.

Jason & I snuck away for a quick date to home depot this afternoon. Of course, we each took a dog.

Chakira was in heaven being included on a trip to her favorite store. I took the opportunity to generalize some of Isaac's obedience training. All our focus games and obedience games paid off as he worked through his first trip to the hardware store.

Calling all dog moms! 🐾✨ Join us for Ladies Night, our off-site dog training class designed just for you. Kicking off tomorrow night, we'll train on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday evening through mid-October. We’ll work on obedience, leash skills, confidence-building and CGC Advanced and Urban skills in a fun, supportive environment.

Job Description

We are seeking a Kennel Technician to join our team! This role is essential in ensuring the well-being of the dogs in our facility. The ideal candidate is passionate about animal care, dependable, and comfortable working with dogs of all sizes.

Responsibilities

Provide daily care for all dogs in the facility

Maintain a clean and sanitary kennel environment, including cleaning kennels and common spaces

Monitor dogs for any signs of illness or distress and report concerns to management

Assist trainers and staff with handling dogs for training sessions as needed

Ensure proper documentation of feeding schedules, medications, and behavioral observations

Follow all safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both dogs and staff

Qualifications

Passion for animal care and a strong work ethic

Ability to handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments safely and confidently

Comfortable working in a physically demanding role, including lifting up to 50 lbs, walking and standing for long periods

Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Everything You Need to Know About the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program!

Are you starting your puppy’s training journey? The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program is a great first step! This program, designed by the American Kennel Club (AKC), sets puppies up for success with basic training, socialization, and responsible ownership skills.

What is the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program?

S.T.A.R. stands for Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsible ownership. It’s an entry-level program that introduces young dogs to training and helps owners learn best practices for raising a well-mannered pup.

How to Participate

To earn the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy distinction, you and your puppy must:
✅ Attend at least six training classes with an AKC-approved CGC evaluator
✅ Demonstrate basic obedience and good behavior
✅ Show responsible ownership habits, like proper identification and veterinary care

The S.T.A.R. Puppy Test

At the end of the class, your puppy will take a simple evaluation, covering:
✔️ Tolerating petting from a friendly stranger
✔️ Walking on a leash without excessive pulling
✔️ Sitting and lying down on command
✔️ Coming when called
✔️ Remaining calm around other dogs and distractions

Big News: The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is Now a Title!

Previously, S.T.A.R. Puppy was only a certificate program. However, the AKC now recognizes it as an official title! That means once your puppy passes the test, you can add “AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy” to their official AKC record. This title is a great foundation for future training and competitive events like Canine Good Citizen (CGC), obedience, and agility.

Training sessions are happening in the house this morning! Rooster, the Brittany Spaniel, is practicing implied stays and duration in sit, stand and down.

He also did some fitness and conditioning work, learning how to walk backwards and then execute his push-ups with good form to build a stronger core and low back.
