Here is a PSA from CSS: Some people think pet sitting isn’t a “real job” or it’s easy. Yes, it can be a fun and at times easy job, but many people have no idea what goes into owning and running a pet sitting business. Pet sitting involves tons of driving! It also involves very long days sometimes being up at 4:00 or 5:00am and being out until 9:00 or 10:00pm. Juggling a personal life while being a pet sitter is very difficult. This is a 365 days a year job! Time off is precious and rare. Trying to work doctor, dentist, and hair appointments into the schedule is a challenge. Every client, every pet, every alarm, every garage code, every house and every day is completely different! Trying to remember them all and get them right is an art. The daily schedule is fluid and can change at any minute. On top of all of this there is managing social media, keeping track of payments/billing, communicating with clients, meeting with new clients, etc. Then you can finally squeezing in your own household chores and spending time with your own pets. Oh and eating is almost always on the go! Our client’s pets are like our pets and when one passes over the rainbow bridge, this is another thing that we deal with…the grief. There are also other trials and tribulations that go along with caring for living beings. So when someone says pet sitting is easy we say NO it’s not easy, but it is very rewarding! No human ever greets us like pets do. No human can give that unconditional love that pets do. No human is ever as forgiving as pets are. So even though pet sitting is not easy, we would not trade it for the world! It’s our calling.
