🚨 **Rabies is Still a Real Threat — Even Here in Tennessee** 🚨

Like and share to spread this important message!

Just this week, a Good Samaritan picked up an injured stray cat and was bitten while trying to help. Tragically, the cat passed away en route to our clinic. With no proof of rabies vaccination, the cat had to be submitted for rabies testing — and now, the individual will likely undergo expensive and stressful rabies post-exposure treatment.

🧬 Rabies remains 100% fatal once symptoms begin — and it’s still very present in our community.

📊 According to the most recently published 2023 Rabies Surveillance Report:

Skunks are the primary wildlife reservoir in Tennessee.

Cats are the most common rabid domestic animal in the U.S.

Tennessee reported 16 cases of rabid animals last year, including skunks, raccoons, and domestic pets.

💉 Prevention is everything.
We strongly encourage all pet owners to keep their animals up to date on rabies vaccines and regular wellness care. Vaccinating your pets doesn’t just protect them — it protects your family, neighbors, and community.

💰 Worried about cost?
Our Premier Pet Wellness Program offers affordable options to help keep your pets protected year-round, including core vaccines like rabies.

📞 If you’re unsure about your pet’s vaccine status or want to learn more about our wellness plans, visit our website or email our staff.

🛑 Do not handle or take extreme caution with stray or injured animals. If you see one in distress, contact local animal control. Rabies is rare — but the risk is very real.

Harry Potter, the Dog Who Lived (Again!)

We like to share the story of, a brave dog known as Harry Potter. She faced a Voldemort of her own recently: a nasty, spell-inducing, troubled gallbladder!
For some time, our furry hero was facing challenges of a nasty Gallbladder Poisson. With time she she fell more ill, whimpering like a first-year during Potions, and her once-sparkling eyes were dulled with discomfort. We feared the worst. Was this the end for our little Potter?

"She's a fighter," whispered Head Healer Catron (our vet, Dr. Catron), her face grim. "But this... this requires more than just a Pepper-Up Potion."

The diagnosis? A severely inflamed gallbladder, threatening to rupture. The only hope: emergency surgery, as risky as facing a Dementor in the Forbidden Forest!
We held our breath, casting every cheering charm we knew. Time crawled by, feeling like an eternity in the Chamber of Secrets. With Magic of Surgery we discovered the poison had more of a punch to it than thought, discovering there was also a rupture in her bile duct, allowing the poison to spread. Dr Catron, with the guidance and support of Dr Hatcher, tacked every challenge this deadly Gall Bladder threw at their efforts. Then, the news! Dr. Catron emerged, beaming brighter than a newly polished Golden Snitch.

"The surgery was a success!" she announced. "Her gallbladder is gone the duct is repaired, and she's resting comfortably. Even then with that good news, our hero had to take the path to full recovery on her own. This is a dog who simply refuses to die! She's truly the 'Pet Who Lived!'" She continued to fight, and grow stronger over coming this nasty beast of a poisoned Gallbladder.

This wouldn't have been possible without the brilliant skills of Dr. Catron, Dr Hatcher and their team at Premier VetCare, along with the after hour doctors that watched over her post surgery. They all are true wizards of veterinary medicine.

Premier VetCare is one of the few General Practice Veterinary Hospitals in our region that is able to take on more advanced soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. If you find your pet under a tough spell, we may just be the magicians you need.

Give them a follow and a huge thank you! Let's raise a Butterbeer (or a bowl of chicken broth!) to Harry Potter, the dog who stared death in the face and said, "Not today, Voldemort! I mean, gallbladder!"

We haven’t had any reported cases from our facility but please be aware that there is a nasty bug going around.

Since the beginning of the summer we have seen a steady uptick in kennel cough in many dogs. Some of these have progressed to concerning pneumonia.

Most of the pets have a history of being at one of the several doggy daycare or group play boarding facility, or the dog parks.

So if your dog starts showing coughing symptoms please seek care promptly. Those that use daycare options may want to avoid them for a bit while the cases fall off.

Also we recommend all dogs are kept up to date on the vaccines to make sure they are as protected as they can be.

Not all causes of kennel cough have a vaccination, but we need to protect for the things we can.
