🚨 Severe Heat Wave Alert: Protect Your Pets! ☀️

Extreme temperatures can be dangerous — especially for pets. Brachycephalic breeds (like Bulldogs, Pugs, Shih Tzus, and Persian cats), seniors, puppies, overweight pets, those with thick coats, and animals with heart or respiratory conditions are especially at risk.

Here’s how to keep them safe:

🚫 Never leave pets in a parked car — even for a minute.
🌡️ Avoid walks on hot pavement — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.
🏠 Keep pets indoors during peak heat hours (10am–6pm).
💧 Provide lots of fresh, cool water.
🧊 Use fans, cooling mats, or damp towels to help them stay comfortable.

⚠️ Watch for signs of heatstroke in pets: excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, weakness, or glassy eyes. Seek emergency veterinary care immediately if you notice any of these symptoms.

Spotlight Thursday: We get so many questions about our office cat Gigi, so we wanted to take some time to introduce her. Gigi came to Cumberland through a partner rescue, after her owners passed, she needed a new home, and we hoped to help her find one. We soon found out that her previous owners owned an antique shop, and Gigi liked to roam around the shop. Our entire team fell in love with her and she was the perfect fit for a clinic cat. Stop by any time to give her a pet or say hello, she normally sits in her perch at the window.
