March 24th - 30th is Tick Bite Prevention week. Ticks are external parasites that can get on you and your pets. They burrow their heads into your skin to drink you blood. When doing this, they can spread many diseases such as Lyme, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Ehrlichiosis, Anaplasmosis, and Babesiosis. It is highly important to keep your pets on tick prevention year round. Ticks do not go away in the fall/winter months in Tennessee as it does not get cold enough during those seasons.

If your pet isn't on prevention, go ahead and give us a call to get an exam and prevention to keep your pet healthy and protected!

Good Morning PetsRUsVet Family!

With the growing likelihood of snow and freezing rain this weekend, we would like to give you tips and tricks to keeping your pets and yourself safe and warm:

- If the power goes out, try to keep your doors closed and open them the least amount possible. This will keep your homes warmer longer.
- Remember to control the time your pets are outside! The freezing snow and ice can damage paw pads and cause hypothermia to dogs not suited/acclimated to freezing weather. If your dog is an outside dog, consider bringing them inside this weekend to a climate controlled area; if not possible, make sure they have adequate, warm shelter and fresh, unfrozen water.
- Make sure to keep lots of blankets and warm spaces. This is the perfect opportunity to cuddle with your pets!
- If you have outdoor cats, please bring them inside! Make sure to have a litterbox and a separate room if needed. Cats can easily turn into kitty-sicles, and we don't want that!
