Opening a horse's mouth is kind of like picking a chocolate out of a variety box - you never know what you're going to see...

Not all dentals are beautiful.
The goal is to help the horse be comfortable and more functional than they started.

This older gentleman had a significant jaw injury earlier in his life and hadn't had dental care for a few years. His jaw mobility was limited and he packed large amounts of footage behind those overgrown molars.

We will work on reducing the overgrown teeth in increments every few months.

We are looking for PART TIME help!
(Preferably someone who lives in KEARNEY or WEST)

Duties will include holding horses for sedation and during their dentals, cleaning and keeping Dr. Mettler company on the road.

Schedules will need to be flexible and may require several days at a time (including overnights).

The answer:

🔵 Blue arrows - sharp points
🟢 Green- ramp, excessive length, and uneven occlusal (chewing surface) of the first premolar
🔴 Red- ulceration of the cheek

The points were smoothed, which will allow the cheek to heal.

The ramp is a result of excessive irregular wear against the lower first premolar. The front portion of the lower premolar was reduced, as well as the middle, V-shaped occlusal surface and overall length of the upper premolar.

Time and regular dental care will soon have this mouth functioning normally!
