“Mares aren’t always well liked and for the same reasons strong women aren’t.

Opinionated? Those opinions are not without good cause and maybe you can't figure them out or maybe you just don’t like her opinion of you. Change it and she will always be on your side.

Stubborn? She just won’t let you bulldoze her. Treat her with respect and her resilience will be an asset to you.

Difficult? You just can’t handle her. You don’t have what it takes.

Stick with geldings then, and leave the mare for someone who understands her and appreciates the same qualities society has subtlety taught you not to like.

Here’s to mares, to strong women, and to those who CAN and DO appreciate them!”

{Search me God, and know my heart} Psalm 139.23

Here’s to the ones that go a little mad from time to time, the ones that love a little wild, that like their hair unkempt and their dreams just a little out of reach. To the ones that watch the horizon for the kicking up of dust by wild horses through the sagebrush sea. To the ones that don’t show up to church on Sunday but show up in the saddle of life and find God on a Tuesday morning in song lyrics or the echoing words from a poem her grandfather wrote. To the ones that strive to be their best, that dust themselves off every day and get back on one more time than they get bucked off. To the ones that fail forward, ask for forgiveness and smile regardless. To the ones that live and love with grace but speak with salt. To the ones that have pure hearts, that love God, and pray deep down He knows their heart and intent. To the ones that know their actions surpass their words. To the ones that want to leave this world better than they found it. To the ones that speak truths, that share their talents willingly, and spread goodness.

I hope you’re one of them, Cowgirl💕

Happy Trails-

This is why your turn does not come from pulling on the rein. Note the riders hand and leg position and hip angle in each sketch. Note the development of the horses muscles in each sketch. Note the shape of the horse in each sketch. A truly supple, truly bent horse is working through their entire body. It is OUR job as the rider to guide the horse to become soft, supple, and through in all movements.

Rider one is pulling the nose around, and trying to push the haunches in, with a following outside rein offering the horse no balance, and a hardly supportive inside leg to wrap around. This has created a rigid, stiff horse that will surely be back sore, weak in the hind end, with front end bulk in all the wrong places. This horse has every opportunity, and will likely be so uncomfortable that it will try every time, to run out of his right shoulder.

Rider two is pushing the horse from his inside leg to his outside rein. The outside rein is providing a balance point for the horse, allowing him to be both comfortable and willing to carry himself. Because the riders rein is supportive and blocking the shoulder, the horse can not blow out the shoulder, and can only become truly bent along the entire length of the spine.

In order to build the athlete you want, and to allow your horse the opportunity to have a long, successful, and most importantly SOUND career, it is important to understand how we ride, even in seemingly simple tasks such as the walk or trotting circles, is effecting each muscle in your horses body. Not all muscle is good muscle!

Things beginners SHOULD and SHOULDN’T look for when purchasing a horse.
_____

What to look for:

• SAFE

• Solid at whatever event you’re wanting to participate in.

• Horses with good reputations. Do your research first. Don’t just believe anything that comes out of an owner’s mouth. People in the horse community usually know if a horse is safe and solid or if they have a reputation of bad habits.

• Maintenance that you feel comfortable maintaining or willing to maintain...(meaning if you don’t feel comfortable giving lasix or other meds a horse may need to perform, don’t buy a horse that requires it and think you’re just not going to give it.)
_____

What NOT to look for:

• Certain colors (let me know how pretty that horse is if you can’t ride it or you’re in the hospital.)

• Young horses. Yes…I know there’s always an exception and there are some young horses that are unicorns..but how many unicorns are actually out there? And this part applies to children..The whole “I want the horse and my child to grow up together” statement makes experienced horse owners cringe.

• Horses that are way too advanced for you. Learn how to ride on something that you can handle and work your way up. You don’t have to go buy the most winningest horse out there to start with because guess what..it’s most likely not going to win with you if you’re not to that level yet. So you might as well save your money and buy something that you can learn on first.

The last couple days have been a tiring whirwind 🌪️to say the least. This is my first experience tracking for deep horn insemination. It was very satisfying when she ovulated right about 40 hrs, post OV drug, and we inseminated right on time 💪🏼
I’m so appreciative for my very good friend for being there with me every step of the way! I really couldn’t have done it without her!
🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 & 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I’ll have a baby update in 14 days!

I get asked fairly often “When is my horse going to go faster?”

When you send me your horse to train, my goal is making a solid, safe, confident horse for you to eventually run and enjoy. This is not a quick and rushed process. Creating a solid horse takes a good amount of time. How long? That I can’t tell you, it varies on each particular horse. Were they actually broke enough to immediately start on the pattern when they come to me? Were they confident? Horses don’t work on a time line, they don’t understand what your budget may be, or when a futurity is. So my answer to your question is “When THE HORSE is ready.”.

They may look “ready” to you in the videos I send where they are slow loping the pattern so pretty. But that doesn’t mean they are ready. Usually in a video you can’t tell how much I am helping them stay correct! When they can stay correct with little help from me, and feel confident going through the pattern, then they are ready for more. That is something that is felt, not always necessarily seen, especially to the untrained eye.

I don’t rush the training process. If you want it done quick, I’m probably not the right trainer for you. I prefer to make a horse that will last you, not fall apart after 6 months. Be patient, trust the process, and it will all come together in time.
