Important Message for Pet Owners: Prescription Drug Safety and Disposal

To keep your pets and family safe, always use prescription medications exactly as directed by your veterinarian. Never share medications between pets or people, and keep all drugs securely stored out of reach of children and pets.

Improperly stored or disposed medications can be dangerous if accidentally ingested by pets or children, and can also contribute to environmental pollution.

Let’s work together to keep our pets, families, and environment safe!

In April 2025, Pennsylvania reported 5,884 positive cases of Lyme disease.

The total number of positive Lyme disease cases in Pennsylvania for 2025 so far is 20,570.

Percentage of Dogs Testing Positive for Lyme Disease:

According to recent veterinary data, approximately 1 in 8 dogs tested positive for Lyme disease in Pennsylvania. This equates to about 12.5% of tested dogs.

Nationally, Lyme disease is the most prevalent tick-borne disease in dogs, and Pennsylvania remains one of the states with the highest case counts.

Anaplasmosis in Pennsylvania (April & Year-to-Date 2025)

The year-to-date total for anaplasmosis cases in Pennsylvania for 2025 is 29,448.

Prevalence in Dogs:

In the northeastern US, including Pennsylvania, anaplasmosis rates in dogs are significant. While the highest rates nationally are seen in Maine and Vermont (where 1 in 3 dogs test positive), neighboring states like Pennsylvania also report substantial prevalence, with some New England states seeing up to 25% positivity in dogs.

This highlights a growing risk for both pets and humans, as anaplasmosis cases in Pennsylvania have doubled nearly every year for the past five years and are now found in almost every county.

Commitment to Ethical Pet Aftercare: We do not use this Crematory

We are deeply saddened and disturbed by the recent revelations regarding the actions of Patrick Vereb and Eternity Pet Memorial. The alleged mishandling of thousands of beloved pets’ remains is a betrayal of the trust that pet owners place in funeral homes and crematories, and our hearts go out to all affected families.

We want to be clear: OUR FACILITY HAS NEVER USED Vereb Funeral Home or Eternity Pet Memorial for any pet burial or cremation services. We work exclusively with licensed, reputable providers who adhere to the highest standards of care, transparency, and respect for every pet entrusted to us.

This unfortunate case underscores the importance of choosing trusted providers who prioritize integrity and compassion. We commend the Office of Attorney General for their thorough investigation and efforts to bring justice to the victims. For pet owners seeking aftercare services, we encourage you to ask questions, verify credentials, and select providers who are transparent and accountable. If you have concerns about services you received from Eternity Pet Memorial or Vereb Funeral Home, we urge you to visit the Attorney General’s website at www.attorneygeneral.gov/epm for support and resources.

While some may assume it’s too early in the year to face a tick bite, experts say the bloodthirsty pests are a risk to people and pets. Ticks can be active year-round and right now you can start seeing ticks. March is prime time for ticks to emerge from dormancy.

Use a year-round tick preventative recommended by Dr. Suorsa.
We live in an endemic area, have your dog vaccinated for Lyme
Avoid tick-prone areas
Check for ticks daily and remove immediately
Maintain your yard

Ticks can transmit diseases quickly, so proactive prevention is crucial . Waiting is dangerous! Have a pet? Call the Vet!
