Lyme Disease: 4,311 new positive cases statewide this month!
➡️ Year-to-Date: 46,131 total cases reported in PA.
➡️ Dogs testing positive: 8.68% — nearly 1 in 12 tested dogs!

Anaplasmosis: 6,951 new positive cases reported this month!
➡️ Year-to-Date: 68,961 total cases in PA.

🐾 What this means: Tick activity is still high, even in fall. Lyme and Anaplasmosis are serious, can cause long-term illness, and affect both pets and people.

Do regular tick checks after walks or play

In August 2025, Pennsylvania saw 4,529 new positive cases of Lyme Disease, bringing the total to 41,820 cases this year. Anaplasmosis cases continue to rise with 7,251 new positives in August, reaching 62,010 for 2025 so far. Stay informed and take precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones.

To make your visit smooth and convenient, we’ll be using our curbside check-in process:

Park in the lower lot and note your parking spot number.

Your technician will call you to collect important information.

We’ll bring your pet inside for their examination with Dr. Suorsa.

Pennsylvania is seeing a high number of tick-borne diseases this summer. In July alone, there were 5,444 new positive cases of Lyme Disease and 8,328 new positive cases of Anaplasmosis reported in dogs. So far in 2025, the total for Lyme Disease has reached 37,291 cases, and Anaplasmosis totals 54,759 cases statewide. About 9.43% of dogs tested for Lyme Disease this month came back positive. Tick protection matters—check your pets regularly and talk to us about prevention.

🐾 Pennsylvania Pet Health Update – June 2025 🐾

Lyme Disease:
This June, Pennsylvania saw 5,573 new positive cases of Lyme Disease in dogs. So far in 2025, there have been 31,847 cases statewide.

Anaplasmosis:
There were 8,618 new positive cases of Anaplasmosis in June, bringing the 2025 total to 46,431 cases across the state.

Lyme Disease:

Symptoms in dogs: fever, lethargy, lameness, anorexia

Key Points:

Both diseases are transmitted by the same tick species.

Co-infection is possible.

Symptoms can be similar, complicating diagnosis.

Lyme Disease in Pennsylvania (April & Year-to-Date 2025)
In April 2025, Pennsylvania reported 5,884 positive cases of Lyme disease.

The total number of positive Lyme disease cases in Pennsylvania for 2025 so far is 20,570.

Percentage of Dogs Testing Positive for Lyme Disease:

According to recent veterinary data, approximately 1 in 8 dogs tested positive for Lyme disease in Pennsylvania. This equates to about 12.5% of tested dogs.

Nationally, Lyme disease is the most prevalent tick-borne disease in dogs, and Pennsylvania remains one of the states with the highest case counts.

Anaplasmosis in Pennsylvania (April & Year-to-Date 2025)
In April 2025, there were 8,694 positive cases of anaplasmosis in Pennsylvania.

The year-to-date total for anaplasmosis cases in Pennsylvania for 2025 is 29,448.

Prevalence in Dogs:

In the northeastern US, including Pennsylvania, anaplasmosis rates in dogs are significant. While the highest rates nationally are seen in Maine and Vermont (where 1 in 3 dogs test positive), neighboring states like Pennsylvania also report substantial prevalence, with some New England states seeing up to 25% positivity in dogs.

This highlights a growing risk for both pets and humans, as anaplasmosis cases in Pennsylvania have doubled nearly every year for the past five years and are now found in almost every county.
