Please give a warm welcome to our newest addition to the Companion Skokie team, Dr. Ethan Yu!

Dr. Yu was born and raised in China before moving to the U.S. to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. After completing his undergraduate studies at the University at Buffalo, he went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the Ontario Veterinary College in Canada, graduating in 2024. Having recently relocated to Chicago, Dr. Yu is excited to serve the local pet community with compassionate, personalized, and high-quality veterinary care.
Fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and American Sign Language, he strives to make veterinary care more accessible to diverse pet owners.
Outside of work, Dr. Yu enjoys exploring Chicago’s food scene with his partner, as well as spending time with their cat, Cruella, and their puppy, Affogato.

It is with a heavy heart that I share some personal news with you. After much consideration, I have made the difficult decision to step away from my role as Medical Director and Veterinarian at Companion Animal Hospital Skokie. This decision comes at a time when my family needs me most—both of my parents are facing major surgeries, and my wife is also navigating health challenges. As much as I love caring for animals, I know my place right now is by my family’s side.

Caring for your beloved companions has been one of the greatest privileges of my career. Over the years, I have come to know so many of you not just as clients, but as people I look forward to seeing. Your trust in me, your kindness, and your dedication to your pets have made my time here truly meaningful.

Even though I am stepping away, I want to assure you that your pets will continue to receive excellent care from the incredible team at our hospital. I have full confidence in my team, and I know they will continue to provide the same level of compassion and care that you have come to expect.

I want to thank you for allowing me to be a part of your pets' lives and I will always cherish the memories. While this is goodbye for now, I hope our paths will cross again in the future.
