We had another really good hunt this morning with a a few young kids from Wyoming. They did great.
I loaded up Bambi, Alex, Boy, Charlie, Bolt, Moose, R***r along with catch dogs Draco and CJ. We turned loose on the sendera going west from the pond. Dogs made a few small circles before Alex and Bambi lined one out as I was watching them on the garmin. In about 15 minutes I heard the fight going on way up in the front part. I looked down at the garmin and it showed Alex and Bambi caught but none of the young dogs could hear them as they had went the other direction. We headed that way. I stopped on the big pipeline sendera where they had the hog caught right inside the brush line. I turned loose the catchdogs to give them a hand and about the same time, the young dogs showed up to join in. I get in there and grab the hog and the young man makes a good stab to take down the sow hog. We give the dogs a little break as its getting hot and no wind. After the break, we are driving around to the soutwest corner when I see 3 hogs in what we call the pretty area due to the really nice trees. I have Moose and Bolt up on top the dog crate. My wife cuts loose them loose and I tell one of the parents to turn loose the others inside the crate catchdogs and all as I had put the catchdogs on the wrong side earlier. Moose and Bolt shut the hog down a couple hundred yards from us right behind the back pond. We get in there and one of the dads legs the hog. The young lady makes an excellent stab and drops the hog immediately. We give the dogs another break and then turn loose a few more times but they were done. I go back to the kennels and switch a few dogs out but it's really hot now and we never get anything stopped, so we called it a day. We made some great new friends and these young kids did awesome. It was a joy having them out.

We had a good quick hunt this morning with a young girl who is 9 years old and wanting to get a good hog. I loaded up a few young dogs and my hunting buddy Tyler brought over his. We turned loose on the south end of the east thicket. We hit a small herd and dogs went in every direction. Finally some of the young dogs were coming back in when two went to baying a few hundred yards from the truck. Within a few minutes, the other dogs got there and the fight was on. Tyler had his young catch dog on the ground already and he helped to hold the sow as she was throwing the young dogs around. We headed to the bay which included crawling on our hands and knees for almost 200 yards. Thick thick brush, I told her just stay right behind me which she did. We got to the hog and Tyler got his hands on it and the young girl took out the good sized sow. She never once complained with all the thorns in her hands and knees from the crawl. She wasn't nervous and didn't panic and followed instructions to a tee. Awesome job. Some of my favorite hunts are watching young kids get out and enjoy the woods.

We had some hunters come out again to hunt with us. They had hunted with us 5 years ago. It's always awesome to have hunters return as well as becoming good friends.

It was cold and windy weather which made it rough on the dogs. I loaded up Frisky, Wyatt, Alex, Spade and Lucy along with catch dogs Draco and Goose. I decided to turn loose on the west sendera and hunt the dogs north into the strong wind. It didn't take long and we jumped a large group. Bad thing though each dog took after their own hog in different directions. We never got any of those hogs stopped, so we loaded up the dogs and headed to the back of the property and hunt the dogs into the east thicket and into the north wind. Didn't take long and we jumped another group. Dogs went in different directions again. Lucy finally lined one out after running it for about 30 minutes. The hog actually made a huge circle and came right back into the east thicket. As she went to baying, Alex and Spade got to her and caught the hog. I dropped the catch dogs. It took us awhile to get to the dogs as we were on our hands and knees trying to get to them. Once we get there, I notice the hog is missing an ear as all the dogs are there. Our hunter makes a good stab and takes out the boar. We dropped a few more times and only caught a couple of piglets so we decided to call it a day. Once again great hunt with some great friends.

We had our last hunt this past Monday morning before we started a new year. A veteran and his son came out on that morning which was less than ideal as a front had blown in and the wind was blowing 30-40 mph from the North. My hunting buddy Tyler showed up to give me a hand. We loaded up the dogs and headed over to the ranch. We turned loose on the west side across the gulley, so we could hunt the dogs into the wind. Dogs jumped a small herd but after a few minutes of running lost the scent due to the heavy winds. This happened to us for a few hours as we turned loose in different places. Finally we turned loose at the south end and hunted the dogs into the wind in the east thicket. Older dogs shot out through the brush. I have a young catahoula named Spade who is still trying to figure everything out. He went out about a 100 yards and let out a yelp (which I thought he had been cut but later realized that it was his excited/bayed bark). After one more bark, you could here the hog grunt. The older dogs had swung back around to help. We crawled on our hands and knees for about 200 yards before we could reach the hog. Dogs had a young sow about 75 lbs caught. Our hunter got in there and took out the hog. After dragging the hog out, we hunted for a few more hours but were not able to get anything else stopped. In all, another really good hunt and made some great new friends.

We had another quick exciting hunt this morning with another veteran. We loaded up Bambi, Frisky, Alex, Rocky, Cubbie, Blonde with catchdogs Goose ande CJ. Ground was nice and wet due to the fog. No wind so we decided to turn loose in the middle of the pasture. We dropped the dogs and headed them north. Bambi and Frisky went North about 400 yards. Alex, Rocky and Cubbie went south. Bambi and Frisky made a big circle as the went West and then circled back toward the truck. The others were in the east thicket. Bambi was about 100 yards from the truck and I heard her bark twice (which she usually does to let us know she is going to catch) and as I told my wife/hunting partner and the hunter, get ready, you could hear the grunt. My partner and the hunter head toward the caught hog as I release the catch dogs. For a few seconds, the hog goes silent and the catch dogs are trying to figure out which way to go. Frisky and Cubbie get to the hog and help catch which makes the hog squeal which sends the catch dogs to him. Hog is really caught now. My partner has already taken a few photos and has the hog in the wheel barrow position for our hunter to stab. He makes a good stab and the beast goes down. After examining the hog, we see the large cutters and start checking dogs. The cut collar had saved Bambi's life as she had a good skin cut right above the collar. The boar's tusks had glanced off the cut collar. We took some photos and loaded him up. Another great hunt and of course, we made another great friend.

It's been awhile since we have had a hunt and one of my hunting buddy's family came out. He turned loose his dogs up in the front. Dogs went in different directions. Finally a few opened up. Two to the south and one to the east. After a good 30 minute chase, the ones to the south were bayed. We headed to them. They had a sow caught which they dispatched. I then decided to turn loose my dogs and road them back towards the front. I get to the gulley crossing and I see Bambi, Fiesty and Rocky throw up their heads and head into the middle section. Within 5 minutes, you hear the squealing. I turn loose Goose and CJ to help them out. We get to them and they have a nice young boar caught which was quickly dispatched. Really fun and quick hunt. The family had a great time as did I.

Hunting season is in full swing, get ahold of us to set up your adrenalin filled hunt.

We had another exciting hunt this morning. Some guys that used to work for me on the base texted and said they had a friend who is hearing impaired wanting to come out and stab a hog. So we loaded up Alex, TO, C**n, Fury with catchdogs Draco and CJ. I invited one of my hunting buddies Tyler along with his girlfriend and cousin. Tyler brought out his pack of dogs as well. We dropped the dogs in 4 or 5 different places and had a few shorts races but dogs would loose them and drift back in. Plus it was hot, dry and no wind. Around 1030 (as its really heating up), I run back to the kennels and swith out dogs. I load up Bambi, Ty, Apache and Wyatt. We head back over to the ranch and I decide to turn loose right down from the pond. I wanted the dogs to go North into the middle section but you know how that goes. Ty, Bambi and Tyler's dogs go the way I want them to but Apache and Wyatt go south. About 10 minutes go by and I hear Wyatt baying which is unusual for him as he usually just catches. Then I hear a big grunt and I knew he was caught. Look at the garmin and Apache got there and caught which made Wyatt catch. We drove down the middle sendera behind the pond. Tyler and his cousin Eric head into the east thicket. My wife said drive around to the east fenceline which I did and sure enough, the dogs are caught about 40 yards in. We turn loose Draco and CJ. My wife is already in there and tells us to come on as my other dogs are showing up to help. Tyler gets there and legs the hog. Our hunter gets up there and makes a great stab and drops the big boar in his tracks. Our hunter was ecstatic. It was great seeing my working buddies and of course I couldn't have done it without the help from my wife, Tyler and Eric.

We had a great hunt this morning with our good friends, Josh, Harvey and his wife along with a family member and her fiance who has never done any type of hunting. I loaded up Ty, Alex, Apache, TO, Fury, Wyatt with catchdog Draco. We turned loose on the middle sendera east of the pond. It wasn't long till we hit a group of hogs and of course dogs going in every direction. We couldn't get any stopped so we started catching and loading up dogs. I decided to turn loose on the big sendera. Didn't take long as Alex, TO and Apache caught one about 20-30 lbs. Our new hunter got in the thicket and took out the young shoat. Turned loose again but the dogs were hot and tired. So I went back and put a few dogs up and grabbed C**n, Fiesty and Bambi. Got back to the property and turned loose on the southwest corner. Dogs made a circle with no luck so I roaded them north. I noticed Bambi and Fiesty roll out quickly and were headed northeast. We drove to the front pond. As soon as I got out of the truck, I heard a loud grunt coming from the northeast corner. I knew one of the dogs had caught a good one. We drove around to the small sendera in the front section and about 5 foot off the sendera Fiesty was caught. About that time, Ty, Bambi, Alex and Fury show up to help. Josh who is one hell of a hand, cuts Draco loose and is right behind him headed to the bay. Josh gets to the hog who is in between two small trees trying to knock dogs off. He almost does. Then the hog turns towards Josh as he is fixing to leg him. Josh goes around the othe side and is able to leg him after he pushed the hog around with his boot. Our new hunter who is a little nervous at this point, gets in there and takes the beast down. Checking the dogs, I notice Fiesty has been hit in the arm pit and along the checkbone. With Josh's help, I get her stapled up. She is doing great now and no other dogs were hurt. Great hunt with great friends and a big thanks to Josh for all the help.

We haven't posted much lately. We have been training pups, breeding dogs along with a few other projects. Here is a training session with one older dog Ty (BMC) and a few young catch dog prospects. All the young catch dogs did well for never seeing a hog before or being on a hunt. We still have some openings so come on out and enjoy a hunt with us.

Dogs have been on fire lately. We had a veteran come down from Indiana to hunt with us this morning. We loaded up Bambi, Fiesty, Apache, Wyatt, Fury, Cubbie and catchdog Draco. We had a slight breeze from the southeast and I wanted to hunt the dogs into the wind, so I decided to turn loose by the west gulley and head them that way. It only took a few minutes, and Bambi was caught. I have noticed Bambi will catch the hog and make it stop then sit back and bark only twice and wait for the other dogs to get there. Apache, Fury, Cubbie and Wyatt were there in no time. As we are driving toward them, Fiesty comes running out of the brush and heads that way. We pull up and can see the dogs have another big toothy boar caught. Our hunter makes a good stab and takes the beast down. Another great hunt and no dogs hurt which is surprising with all these big toothy boars that we have been catching. Plus we made another good friend. Love the hunts with veterans.

We had a hunt for the books today. 3 good boars with good tusks and 1 good sow. We had some of our hunting buddies from Illinois come back down and hunt with us. They always do a good job and they always seem to get a good boar.

I loaded up Ty, Alex, Wyatt, TO, CJ, C**n and catchdog Draco. We got to the place and started driving around. I noticed Ty and Alex who were on top of the box, start winding. Stopped, turned them loose along with the others and they didn't go 25 yards and were caught all within seconds. We got to them and our hunter took down the first big boar. We loaded up and went to the north strip and turned loose. Dogs rolled out, and then headed east and then south very quickly. We could tell they were trailing hogs. In about 5 minutes, I looked at the garmin and it showed TO caught in the east thicket. We drove toward them and I looked at the garmin and it showed the hog had broke and was headed east. We drove around and TO, Alex, Wyatt had the sow up against the fence. I turned loose Draco and CJ who charged in and helped seal the deal. It was starting to get a little hot so I went and changed out a few dogs. I kept Wyatt and Ty while loading up Bambi, Fiesty, Apache, Cubbie and Fury. I decided to turn loose on the west side by the big gulley. Dogs went about 100 yards and had a few barks which is unusual for mine as they mainly just catch. About that time, we see lots of hogs crossing in different directions on the senderas. About 5 minutes later, I look at the garmin and it shows Bambi is caught in the middle section. We head that way and I take a quick look at the garmin and it shows all the dogs there. We head into the thicket and we notice right away the big tusks the boar has. Our hunter gets in there and dispatches him quickly. Give the dogs a short rest then head to the southwest corner. Turn the dogs loose and hogs bust out everywhere. After another 5 minutes, it shows Bambi as caught again, this time in the east thicket. We head that way. I look at the garmin and only have Bambi, Apache, Cubbie and Fiesty there. So I turn out Draco to help them out. You could hear it when he smashed into the hog. We had to crawl for this one and of course another big boar with cutters. Our hunter took him out swiftly. What a hunt and no dogs hurt or cut.
