Cooper came to us with a bite history, resource guarding that could not be interrupted even with treats, reactivity at the door, and greetings that quickly turned into jumping and chaos.
He is a very friendly dog. That was never the issue.
The issue was boundaries, impulse control, and what happened when he did not get his way.
Cooper is currently in our board and train program, where we are building structure inside the home, clear obedience under pressure, safer item handling, and calm, controlled greetings so escalation is no longer part of the picture.
The most important part of this program is not just the work we do with Cooper. It is the work we do with his owners throughout the process. Structure has to transfer home for real change to happen.
When guarding works or reactivity creates space, dogs repeat it. When structure is consistent, those patterns change.
If you are seeing early signs of guarding, door reactivity, or loss of control with guests, do not ignore it.
