Keep Pets Safe This Labor Day Weekend!

As we celebrate Labor Day, many of us look forward to backyard barbecues, get-togethers, and time outdoors – but for pets, these activities can sometimes bring hidden hazards. With our clinic closed on Labor Day, we want to help you prepare so your pet stays safe, calm, and healthy.

Here are a few quick tips for a pet-safe holiday:

🍔 Just Say No To Table Scraps: Rich, fatty, or seasoned foods (like ribs, burgers, onions, grapes, and chocolate) can make pets sick.

☀️ Beat the Heat: Keep pets cool with shade and fresh water. Avoid mid-day walks on hot pavement.

🦟 Bug & Sun Protection: Ask about pet-safe sunscreen and insect repellent to prevent burns and bites. Keep an eye on your pet’s skin for any redness, bumps, or bites. If you notice anything unusual, monitor closely and make an appointment if symptoms worsen or your pet seems uncomfortable.

🏷️ Prevent Lost Pets: Holiday gatherings and open gates can lead to unexpected escapes. Make sure your pet’s collar has an ID tag with your current phone number and address. If your pet is microchipped, confirm the contact info is up to date – most veterinarians (including us and UrgentVet) can scan lost pets to help reunite them quickly.

🚗 Travel Smart: Use pet seatbelts or carriers – and never leave pets in parked cars, even for a few minutes.

Here are our litter announcements-both girls are at the midway point of their pregnancy as of yesterday! We are so excited!

Mr Kip is vacaytioning with Aunt Donna

Just in time too! Both girls are flagging and Winston is in heaven today We will likely have mating Sunday/Monday/Tuesday ish.

Cross your fingers and toes and say prayers that we have two pregnant ladies soon.

Once we confirm mating, the next step takes place about 25-30 days after ovulation Thats when we will ultrasound to confirm pregnancies. We hope to see puppies but US isnt a exact head count for us I can usually feel a baby bump by this time and sometimes a Momma will have morning sickness

We have special professional breeder pregnancy food and prenatal vitamins that we feed them from a few weeks before heat starts on through pregnancy. At day 42 we change food to a Mother Baby starter to give Mom even more nutrition Once she delivers we switch her vitamins to a formulation that supports great milk production These efforts are all gor Momma to keep her healthy and full of all the things she needs to stay well and healthy throughout her pregnancy and after

Around day 57 we will have an xray to get our puppy count.

Cavaliers generally whelp at 63 days after ovulation. By day 58 puppies are highly viable and we take a big sigh of relief.

Thats the plan-we hope the heat frenzy is passed for the most part by the time Kip comes home Tuesday afternoon. He and Winston have become buddies and we didn’t want any potential falling out during this time our next teo heats will be with younger ladies so neither of our fellows will be given access and next heat in six months we will be returning Isabella to Kip for her final litter and they will be more beautiful solid puppies

This handsome boy sat so nicely for his website pictures for me today. He is 18 months old and fully health tested. He is still coming into his full adult coat. We think he is stunning.

We cut our trip short we are so worried about everything at home. We will get in tonight God willing. We have no power and no idea when it will be turned back on. We are grateful all our family is safe, we pray for those with dire circumstances across the Carolina’s and ask our friends to do the same. We are so grateful for our son Quincy who dug trenches to keep the house from flooding.

Puppies had their last vet visit today and start to go to their new homes tomorrow. They have grown so much! Today they weighed 5.5-7.3 pounds! Everyone is so excited to get their puppy and we are happy for them too. It's going to be bittersweet saying goodbye for now to these precious darlings and we hope everyone will keep us posted on how they are doing as they grow over the years.
