Banded skink (african banded skink) are active, intelligent skinks that enjoy burrowing and basking.
Lifespan: 15–20+ years
Adult size: 12–16 inches
Temperament: Usually calm and food motivated
Enclosure
Minimum: 40-gallon breeder for one adult
Front-opening enclosures work best
Provide lots of floor space
Temperatures
Basking spot: 100–105°F
Warm side: 85–90°F
Cool side: 75–80°F
Night: can drop to low 70s
Use:
Halogen basking bulb
Digital thermometer/temp gun
Humidity
Around 40–60%
Provide a humid hide for shedding
Substrate
Best options:
Organic topsoil/play sand mix
Reptisoil
Aspen mixed with soil
Depth:
4–6+ inches for burrowing
Lighting
UVB strongly recommended
T5 HO 5.0 or 6% UVB works well
12-hour day/night cycle
Diet
Main diet:
Dubia roaches
Crickets
Mealworms/superworms (treats)
Occasional hornworms
Extras:
Small amounts of greens
