I am grateful to the dogs for the peace they give me. I have made a few changes to the page due to new laws in Oregon. While I can loe and adopt and train and sell and if I wanted to even breed or puppy mill puppies without any intervention from the state. So using the words rescue rehome or shelter in regards to me is a no no. I used to rescue dogs but now I just raise and train stock dogs. The reason for the change is if I were a rescue then the government could show up with out a warrant. and get bit.

It dawns on me a long time after I started the page. I am a stockman and woodworker on the coast of Oregon. I raise cattle and goats have a few horses and on occasion some hogs. My dogs have to be gentle with the goats brave for the cattle and rough enough for the hogs. Feel free to share about yourselves and your dogs.

Stock Dog coming in from Philadelphia

My city friends might laugh at me but any true stockman would have done the same. Not willing to accept the outside appearances of things as they are I recreated a timeline yesterday in which many different theories were brought forth. Long story short which actually makes more sense in my eyes. I did a f***l exam this morning and found beautiful brown goat hairs in both Lila and Lucas leavings which means I now have 2 dogs that will never be trusted around goats again. one of which I had planned on trialing and one which had a buyer and a committed price and rough date of delivery. Of course it started out as a game and went overboard and both dogs in a stockmans eyes should pay with their very lives. But since I rescue them I have to carry some of that responsibility.

Well s**t I think sam cursed the day when she said it went to s**t. I could lie and say the coyotes did it but Luca had it in his mouth. I could sell all the goats and just use him on cattle. I could convince myself he will never do it again. Today is the first time I have ever shied away from culling a stock dog for doing what he did today. I don't know why I would shy away from this when I know he can't stay. So Dear luca you are the prettiest friendliest dog I have met in a long time you are going to make somebody a fine pet and I will always have a soft spot for you but there is no place on this farm for you. I will keep you for another month and really school you on obedience so you stand a chance and I will vet your future owners to make sure you have a chance You are the luckiest dog in the world tonight because either God or an Angel intervened on your behalf. Good Luck in all your future endeavors my friend. To answer the question in all the readers minds. I will answer with he killed a goat. He was playing with it before he killed it I am sure but life on the farm is rough and he is certainly blessed because any and every other dog I have had that even killed a chicken died on that day. So who wants a little red heeler for a jogging companion . Forgive me Dewey today I just couldn't do it He is way to good of a dog and way to young to go down that path. Crikey I must be getting old time to switch to breeding my own and quit trying to fix other peoples screw-ups. I will say though this one is my fault He was loose and I was working with Lila somewhere else on the farm but still there is no excuse and no remediation for a dog that kills stock
