LETS TALK DOG FOOD: Does your dog have a lot of diarrhea or do they vomit occasionally? If so, please read!
Do you abruptly change dog food, give table scraps, and tons of extra treats?
Changing Food: I’m no expert, but I am observant and experienced and in my experience, The worst thing you can do for your dogs tummy is continually change its food, add treats, give scraps, and over feed it. I’ve witnessed time and time again, even with my own dogs through the years that it causes vomiting and diarrhea. I used to do all this because I thought they’d like something different. Then I realized, NOT A GOOD IDEA. Tons of dogs come through here and if my regulars change up food, I know I’m going to see diarrhea and maybe even vomiting. Not always. Some dogs have tougher stomachs, but most do not. You CAN switch food slowly to keep this from happening Table Scraps: A no no today. Yes that’s all they lived on back in the day. The difference: today is not farm fresh. It is ultra processed food with additives and chemicals that do not agree with dogs tummies. Look at ingredients. They put onions and garlic in tons of stuff now for flavor. Toxic to dogs. Again, some dogs handle them ok, most do not.
Treats: 1- 2 a day of the same treats they’re used to is usually ok. Even changing these regularly can cause diarrhea.
Over feeding: I never looked at how much I should feed my dog until they kept throwing up at night. I was over feeding them. Look at guidelines on food. They are there for a reason. Just like me, Everyone wants to spoil their fur babies. Do it with attention, playing, and petting. Not with food that makes them feel as bloated and sick as almost everyone after Thanksgiving dinner. 😁 Just my thoughts and observations. Hope it helps.
