FAD: Free Animal Doctor Secure, guaranteed funding for pets who need life changing and life saving medical procedures. FAD's current focus is on cats and dogs.

FAD, Free Animal Doctor, is a charitable organization dedicated to funding life saving and life improving medical procedures for animals. Across America there are pets that desperately need medical procedures their owners cannot afford. We provide a secure, guaranteed way to fund the animals' procedure that is also tax deductible. Unlike other crowd funding organization we do not fund the pet owne

r, we fund the veterinarian directly. This way donors know that their money is going straight to cat or dog that needs the attention! In addition, we personally visit, interview and background check our list of approved vets, and get a discount from them. This means we can usually provide the animal with the necessary medical procedure for less than if someone funded it themselves, so your donation goes further. If you have questions you can contact us at 213-566-1111. Or contact us as below:

❤-- Help More Dogs in Urgent Situations Like Luna! --🐾

Luna had a condition called pyometra, an infection of the uterus. The infection causes the uterus to swell, and eventually burst, which results in death from septic shock: the body cannot handle the sudden internal flood of the viral infection.

There is only one solution: surgery to remove the uterus. And if the swelling is as bad as it is here, that needs to happen NOW.

Her owner Anthony took her to an ER vet, and they told him it would cost over $10,000 an amount he did not have, and did not have any way to raise. Also, a ridiculous price! This surgery is often done in the range of $2000-$4000.

Fortunately, in desperation, Anthony found us on Thursday. We were able to get him an appointment two hours from his home that evening, for around $2000. He pawned everything he had that could be pawned, with friends chipping in, and drove to west Los Angeles.

Here you can see Luna on the surgery table that evening. The doctor squeezed her into his busy Thursday schedule because he recognized the emergency. Even then, it was worse that he expected.

Below you can see what looks like sausage around a orange-ish mass. That sausage shape is the uterus, at least 10x larger than it should be. Where the green arrows point are two particularly swollen areas the doctor said he was afraid to touch. They were so hard and swollen he though they might burst at any time.

The entire uterus was carefully removed. Luna was stitched up, and late the evening she was already awake!

The doctor kept her all day Friday, but by late afternoon she was released back to Anthony, able to walk out of the clinic! Today (Sunday) she is doing great at home!!

She is eating and drinking normally, and back to being a happy dog! (Yes there are some pain meds that might be helping, but the point is she is making a full recovery).

One thing we do daily at FAD is give people recommendations and useful information on vet care. Many people simply need direction to more affordable options. And sometimes we can help with emergency cases, like Luna's.

Help us with this work by making a donation to Free Animal Doctor directly. Click any of the ORANGE buttons to make a donation right now. We appreciate it, and it will be used to make all the difference to more dogs like Luna in the future!

---Happy Memorial Day!---
Do you know the story of Smoky from WWII?

Smoky was a four pound, purebred Yorkshire Terrier found in an abandoned foxhole in New Guinea during fighting there in 1944.

The soldier who found her sold her shortly thereafter for poker money, two Australian dollars, to Corporal Bill Wynne, who was serving with the US Army Air Forces' 5th Air Force. Bill kept her throughout the rest of the war, returning to the USA with her where she died in Cleveland in 1957, 13 years later.

Her story is unbelievable, yet true!

The short version:
She served in 12 combat missions, and received eight battle stars as a participant in combat.

Corporal Wynne credits her with saving his life by alerting him to incoming shell fire.

In the Luzon campaign Smoky helped in construction of a runway by running cable through small tunnels, which almost certainly saved numerous lives.

She lived off C-rations from fellow troops, whom she entertained.

Perhaps most importantly, she is credited with being the first medical therapy dog. While Wynne was hospitalized with dengue fever at the 233rd Station Hospital in New Guinea one of the physicians was Dr. Charles Mayo of the Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Mayo allowed Smoky to stay with Wynne in his hospital bed, and she became a hit with the wounded and ill soldiers at the hospital, and was noted for boosting moral. She continued this work for the rest of her life, starting off the use of dogs for therapy, which is now a well accepted and proven concept in medical care.

The mystery of Smoky
In the 1940s Yorkshire Terriers were almost unknown in America, and it was actually Smoky that popularized them in the post war years as she became a celebrity of sorts. How a four pound dog survived a battle to be found in an abandoned foxhole is itself a bit of a mystery, but how it was a purebred Yorkie on a remote island known mostly for it's isolated tribes is mind blowing.

Numerous theories have been presented, including that she might have been the property of a Japanese officer. But she was tested with a Japanese translater and knew no Japanese langauge commands. When found she was dirty, but otherwise recently groomed and in good health.

Wynne himself sincerely said that she was sent to him as a guardian angel, and he believed whole-heartedly that she saved his life. Probably no dog has made both more of a contribution during war AND after than Smoky, especially if you count it pound-by-pound!

“Many and various animals were employed to support British and Allied Forces in wars and campaigns over the centuries and as a result millions died. From the pigeon to the elephant they all played a vital role in every region of the world in the cause of human freedom. Their contribution must never be forgotten.”
