👑 "A Princess on Her Throne" - observed by her guardian vet tech Hailee

🚨 Lily came to our ER after suddenly becoming non-responsive and was found to be in hypoglycemic shock. She was immediately stabilized with IV fluids and dextrose, and additional treatments were given to protect her brain and control her blood sugar. Hailee, one of our skilled veterinary technicians, was by her side to ensure she received the best care.

❤️ Although her glucose returned to normal, Lily continued to experience seizures. She was started on medication to help manage them and will be monitored closely at home. Her family has been advised on seizure safety, feeding small frequent meals, and follow-up care with their primary veterinarian.

💡 What pet parents should know:
- Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) can cause weakness, disorientation, collapse, or even seizures.
- Seizures lasting longer than 5 minutes, or more than 2 seizures in 24 hours, are emergencies—seek immediate veterinary care.
- Feeding small, frequent meals can sometimes help pets prone to blood sugar drops.

We’re wishing Lily comfort and healing as she recovers with the support of her care team and loving family. 💙

😳 Findlay went full possum mode—just not the way you’d expect.

🚨A case in June: Findlay came in for vomiting after “maybe eating something.” We induced emesis and out came a full stomach of food… and one completely intact baby opossum...

⚕️ Huge credit to Dr. Yolles and the team for handling it like total pros. Fluids, anti-nausea meds, and a quick recovery (for the dog, unfortunately not the opossum).

🩺 Why go into emergency medicine? Because no matter how many shifts you work—you’ll never see it all.

🦨 Wildlife deserves our respect. To help reduce run-ins:
Secure your trash, pick up fallen fruit, and avoid leaving pet food outside—these are all magnets for curious critters like opossums, raccoons, and skunks.

"I feel like he remembered me from his first visit! He is the sweetest boy ever."

💙 From Caroline, one of our amazing techs:

“This is Max. We first saw him last year as a puppy when his owner accidentally fell on his chest after slipping on the ice in the winter. Max had to stay at the hospital to be monitored. He was the cutest puppy in the oxygen tank and got better and went home!

He came back in May to be hospitalized for gastroenteritis, I believe, and I got to give him snuggles and loves."

🚨 In emergency medicine, we rarely get the chance to build long-term relationships with our patients. But when they return and show us even the smallest sign that they remember—those moments stay with us.

❓ What does AAHA-accredited mean?

🐾 It means Amber and Teagan have memorized hundreds more standards than college ever asked for… and they still make time to know our patients, not just treat them.

🤘 Cheers to AAHA Hospital Day and the chaos we call excellence!

🎉 Happy Birthday Dr. Parr

Today we’re celebrating the one and only Dr. Parr — the kind of leader who makes you want to work harder, laugh louder, and care deeper. To mark her birthday, we asked our team to describe her in one word — and it turns out, one word might not be enough. 💙🎉

❤️‍🔥 Help protect the pets you love—because they can’t protect themselves.

🚨We’ve treated over 50 pets suffering from smoke inhalation and house fires—and those were the lucky ones who made it to us. 💔

⏰ Every second counts in a fire. When first responders arrive, knowing how many pets are inside your home can mean the difference between life and death. 🐾

🏷️ Pick up a free fire safety sticker at our hospital!

🐶🐱🐰🐦Place it on your window or door to let firefighters know how many animals to rescue.

This Thursday, July 17, MDAEH will be closed from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM as we come together to honor the life of our beloved team member, Shanna Bartlett.

Shanna has been with MDAEH since we opened our doors five years ago. Her compassion, dedication, and warmth touched the lives of countless pets, clients, and colleagues. She was truly part of the heart of our hospital, and her absence will be deeply felt.
