Today marks the end of the "dog days of summer". We made it! But what are the dog days of summer?

The dog days of summer refer to the time when Sirius begins to rise in the sky of Northern Hemisphere, which also tend to be the hottest days of summer. Sirius is the brightest star in our sky! As we begin the slow crawl to winter, we will now be able to spot the hunter Orion and his faithful hunting dog, Sirius, as they track across the sky hunting the fox and the hare.

Like our banner says, for all paws....and Tarantula's do have paws! August the 8th is one busy day for so many animal appreciation days, so we are spreading them out!

Did you know that the Krewe has had a royal Tarantula? Even though our name is Barkus and Meoux, we have had all sorts of royal animals over the years.

On Friday, in addition to International Cat Day, it is also National Catahoula Day!

The origin history of the Catahoula Leopard Dog is a bit lost to the swamps of time, but they are credited as being from Louisiana and more than likely are a mix of Native American dogs with influence from Spanish breeds and later from French breeds. In 1979 the breed became the official dog of the State of Louisiana.

However they got here, we sure are proud that they are our dog's! From loyal companions to working hog dogs, the Catahoula Leopard Dog's got it covered. Show us yours down below!
