🌟 Meet Birdie: Your New Furry Friend! 🌟

This adorable 11-month-old ball of joy is ready to find her forever home! Birdie is a wet food connoisseur who loves nothing more than cuddling and playtime! 💖🐾

Birdie has never met a dog, so we think it is best if she does not have any canine companions just yet. She can also be a bit of a diva with older cats—our clinic’s oldest resident has felt her playful spirit a bit too much! 🙀 She absolutely adores kittens!

The bright side? Birdie is up to date on her vaccines, spayed, and boasts a clean bill of health! 🩺✨

If you are looking for a playful, loving companion who will keep you entertained, Birdie might be the purr-fect fit! Stop by and meet her today!

For inquiries, call us at 318-869-2280, or visit us at 2900 Youree Drive. Adoption paperwork is available at the front desk!

We love Birdie very much and want to find her the home she deserves, so positive vet references are required! 🏡💕

Thanksgiving is a holiday that’s centered around family and food. While it’s tempting to include the furry members of our family in the feast, many aspects of Thanksgiving can put pets in danger (so put down that turkey leg)! Here are some tips to keep your pet safe on Thanksgiving!

The holidays don’t have to be stressful. Keep your pet out of danger with these Thanksgiving pet safety tips.

We are *finally* heading into our winter season- however fleeting it may be. This means that outside kitties will be looking for a warm place to find shelter from the cold!
Usually, they choose car engines, or wheel wells.
We have already had three kittens brought in this month that were found inside of cars!
So please remember to check before you start driving for the day!You can tap on the hood, give the horn a honk or even open it up to take a good look. They are very good at hiding so make sure you use a flashlight.

If you have any ferals outside- if you are able to, try to provide them a warm place to rest.
Here are a few D.I.Y. methods that work great! https://youtu.be/f8WKpIrHevM?si=4J5Ogu17z2C08AwM
If you don't have the time, but can spare the money, they sell amazing little insulated cat houses online at Walmart, Tractor Supply and even Amazon! https://a.co/d/bzVAgoo

If you're following our page, you more than likely have had a pet at some point in your life; which means you have been hounded by a veterinarian to spay your female animals as soon as possible!
Some clients dismiss this imploration as a money grab; might even consider spaying and neutering unnecessary, elective procedures that are pushed by vets across the globe in order to make themselves a little more money.
To showcase the importance of spaying your cats (and dogs too) we would like to introduce our newest clinic cat, Birdie! (Pic 1)
If you have seen Birdie in person, you have seen that she…well, she has large breasts! (Pic 2)

This is because when Birdie came to us, she had advanced pyometra and mastitis.
She had to be spayed immediately, and was on antibiotics for almost an entire month afterward. To be blunt: Her mammary tissue was so infected and swollen from her mastitis that it had burst open, creating several abscesses along her abdomen, several of which had to be debrided of their dead tissue, sewn and/or stapled closed in order to heal. (Pic 3) The only remaining evidence of this condition are the excessive amounts of skin that hang down from her breasts; but if this condition had gone untreated, it would have cost her her life. We do not know yet if her skin will ever return to its original state. If she had been spayed on time, at five months old, she would not have gone through what she went through.

As the surgical procedure for pyometra is considered an emergency surgery, it is much more expensive than a normal spay. We want to spare any and all of you the worry and fear that comes with these hormonal infections. Please take a look at the symptoms of both conditions listed below.

Pyometra is a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that causes it to fill with bacteria and pus. The longer the infection goes untreated, the more serious the condition becomes. This can and will kill our beloved friends.
Common symptoms of Pyometra include: Vaginal discharge, lethargy, vomiting, excessive urination and thirst, swollen abdomen, loss of appetite, panting, collapse, and diarrhea.

Mastitis is inflammation in the breast, which is usually caused by an infection. It is most common when a mother is breastfeeding, but it can happen at other times as well. A clogged milk duct that doesn't let milk fully drain from the breast, or breaks in the skin of the ni**le can lead to infection.
Common symptoms of Mastitis include: Swollen breasts, redness, cloudy discharge from ni**les, pain when touched, lethargy, fever, appetite loss and vomiting.

All that to say: PLEASE spay and neuter your babies!! It makes their lives so much easier, and saves you the potential cost of emergency surgery!

It’s National Veterinary Technician Week!
This annual event recognizes veterinary nurses and technicians for their contributions to pet healthcare. We take this week to honor them for all the hard, sometimes dangerous, work they do on a daily basis to ensure that our furry friends get the care they need!
