🚨Kitten Fosters Needed🚨

Kitten season is here, and the shelter needs fosters! There are unweaned, bottle babies needing fosters as well as kittens on canned cat food that just need a little TLC! Fosters do need to reside within the city limits of Sherman.

If you think you can help or have any questions, please call the shelter at 903-892-7255 or stop by anytime the shelter is open!

Looking for a simple way to help our shelter friends?

Our Animal Services team is partnering with Eisenhower State Park to give shelter dogs a chance to get out, stretch their legs, and spend time with the community.

Join them on Fridays from 9:00 to 10:00am. Meet at the front parking lot of the state park and walk shelter dogs along the trails.

This will happen every Friday morning through the end of May. No RSVP is required.

Please don’t scroll past me… I’ve been patiently waiting 🐾

I woke up again today in the same kennel. Same noise. Same walls. Same waiting.
Every morning I hope it will be different… but it never is.
I watch the doors all day long. They open… people walk in… and I wag my tail as hard as I can, hoping this is my moment. Sometimes they smile. Sometimes they stop. And sometimes… they choose one of my friends.
And I’m so happy for them. Truly.
But I’m still here.
Still waiting.
Still wondering… why not me?
There’s nothing wrong with me. I promise.
I have so much love to give—more than you can imagine. The kind of love that stays, that heals, that never gives up. I just need someone to give me a chance.
Please… come meet us.
Even if it’s just for a few minutes. A walk. A kind touch. A moment of your time. It means everything to dogs like me who are starting to lose hope.
But maybe—just maybe—you’ll look into my eyes and know…
I’m the one who’s meant to go home with you. ❤️

If you currently have a dog at home and are considering adoption, the shelter protocol suggests that you bring your dog in for a meet-and-greet. This allows them to ensure the dogs are compatible and helps prevent any potential issues, setting everyone up for a safe and successful transition.

Five dogs are waking up again today in the same kennel… and they don’t understand why.
They’ve watched countless others leave—tails wagging, hearts full—while they stayed behind. Day after day, door after door opens… just not for them. What starts as excitement slowly turns into confusion… and then quiet heartbreak.
These dogs aren’t “less than.”
They’re not broken.
They’re not unworthy.
They are the ones who will love you the deepest—because they know what it feels like to be overlooked.
If you’ve ever thought about adopting, please let it be one of them.

Heartbreak in a Kennel: These 5 Souls Have Waited Too Long 💔

There are faces at our shelter that have seen hundreds of families walk by, only to stop at the kennel next door. For five specific, incredible dogs, the silence of another night in the shelter is becoming unbearable. They have watched their friends leave, one by one, while they remain—waiting, hoping, and slowly losing that spark in their eyes.
Our hearts are breaking for them. These aren't just "shelter dogs"; they are loyal companions who have spent far too many months behind bars through no fault of their own.

We are pleading with you: Please don't let them be forgotten.
They don't need a mansion; they just need a chance,and to tell them they’re "good," and a promise that they’ll never be abandoned again.

If you can’t adopt, please be their voice. Share this post, tell your neighbors, or come and volunteer, the pups always need helping hands. These precious souls have so much love stored up—they just need a home to pour it into.

It’s been a good month at the Sherman Animal Shelter.

As of today, 64 animals have found homes.

One of them is Runtz, who was adopted by Sgt. Shaver and his family.

Runtz has three siblings left at the shelter. If you’ve been thinking about adding a friend to your family, there are some good ones waiting.

Thank you for continuing to show up for our animals, Sherman.

The Sherman Animal Shelter is asking for our community’s help. While we are grateful that many dogs have recently been adopted or rescued, several long-term residents are still waiting for their forever homes. These deserving dogs need our support now more than ever.

You can view available dogs in our dedicated Nextdoor group. There are so many wonderful companions waiting — we’re confident you’ll find a loyal, loving friend ready to join your family.

Volunteer Opportunities
We are also seeking additional volunteers to walk, play with, and socialize the dogs. Socialization greatly improves their chances of adoption or rescue. Although we recently welcomed two new volunteers (and we’re incredibly thankful!), we still need more helping hands.
Even one hour of your time can make a tremendous difference in a dog’s day. You’ll quickly get to know their sweet faces, unique personalities, and loving, playful spirits.

We’re visiting KXII-TV this afternoon with Joe from our Animal Shelter. On set, he picked up the nickname “Handsome Joe.”

He’s helping us highlight reduced adoption fees for February.
