His honors include a National Board of Review Award and the prestigious Screen Actors Guild Award.
In 2018, Elliott starred in the blockbuster musical A Star Is Born alongside Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. His heartfelt performance earned him an Academy Award nomination, a Critics’ Choice Movie Award nod, and recognition from the Golden Globes. He later achieved further acclaim with his role in the Paramount+ western 1883, which secured him a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Elliott began his career in the late 1960s, appearing in The Way West and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. His first starring role came with Frogs (1972), while his true breakthrough arrived with Lifeguard (1977). He continued to rise with Mask (1985), a moving drama where he co-starred with Cher. The 1990s brought him roles in Gettysburg and Tombstone, both of which cemented his image as a western icon.
In the 2000s, he joined big productions like We Were Soldiers (2002), Hulk (2003), and Ghost Rider (2007). His work on television also earned acclaim, including a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Justified. He later led Netflix’s hit sitcom The Ranch and was highly praised for his touching performance in The Hero (2017).
